First meal after colonoscopy

I return very, very slowly to liquids and solids. I pack a chilled water bottle and Club Crackers with salt for the car ride home. I sip water, eat a few crackers, doze a bit, wake up and do both again, several times before I get in the door. I then set up a table next to my bed with a pitcher of iced water, a glass with a flex straw and a bowl full of Club Crackers. I doze in bed but tend to wake up off and on, never getting into a deep sleep. Each time I wake up, I drink more water, eat more crackers. After doing all of this for about 2 or 3 hours, I am ready to eat a light meal. Usually a small turkey sub or cup of soup.

I've learned the hard way it's best not to jump right back into full meals with my gut.

The Club Crackers seem to really help, probably the salt replentishes my electrolytes too.

I posted this elsewhere but I also feign sleepiness, so the recovery room nurses have to give me 2 bags of IV fluids. One time a nurse told me not to hurry out of there even if I felt guilty my husband needed to ultimately return to work. She said - you need more than 1 bag of fluids sometimes. And she was right.

If I do all of the above, by evening I'm feeling nearly normal again.

My gut is always s so raw from dozens or more biopsies that I have to follow the liquid to soft to normal diet thng with care too. It's usually a week before i get formed stool again, assuming I wasnt in a flare to begin with.

I always eat mashed potatoes and mac and cheese for dinner after a colonoscopy.

After my last flex sig two weeks ago I wanted mexican. That was not one of my better ideas.

What I recommend: eat something small and whatever you find easy to digest.

What I actually do: eat something huge, greasy, and DELICIOUS. Then have cramps and lot of gas later.

definitely a smoothie or juice. i've made the mistake of eating a huge meal afterward like a salad or geez- cauliflower- and have felt like death from the gas and cramps.

whatever you do, take probiotics. i'm sure some of them got washed out of your colon.

I eat whatever I am in the mood for. I've never had any problem.

As I contemplate what I want to eat because I am starving I usually end up going to Subway and eating a 6in roasted chicken breast with lettuce, olives, a slice of pepperjack, salt pepper and a little bit of sauce on white bread. It's enough to get something in my stomach again without causing turmoil in my digestive tract. because I end up sleeping the day away because of the propofol.
