Question for the FT experts

So, I'm gearing up to try and FMT to improve (cure, even?) my colitis. Had my potential donor tested, of course. They found a parasite that is common in the water here (donor is asymptomatic, which is also common), and want to treat with Flagyl. ACK! What I know if it, it's an anti-biotic, which removes this donor from consideration. However, my N.D. says Flagyl is an anti-parasitic, and doesn't affect gut flora the same as a "regular"(?) antibiotic. Now I'm confused.

If anyone has experience or a well-informed opinion, I'm all ears.

this would definitely exclude this person 100%. i remember when i spoke to a doctor about my donor and use of antibiotics, he said she couldn't have had any in the past 6 months.

flagyl was part of my antibiotic regimine before i started fecal transplant so i'd kill all the bacteria in my gut to make way for the fecal transplant's good bacteria.

OK, folks, I'd like to challenge our collective thinking. This is an honest question, because I think we may have got ourselves off track.

So, we all have a "group think" sort of opinion that a potential FMT donor has to be off antibiotics for a while. Some say 3 months minimum. Bananagirl, you say your doctor said 6 months. Obviously, the longer the better. But, what's the minimum?

I approached my doctor with this question, and she came back with Dr Borody's 2003 paper on treating UC with FMT, where he specifically mentions 6 weeks as the minimum.

OK, the floor is open for opinions. Fact-based preferred, of course.
