Polyps found in colonoscopy

Hi all

When I had my colonoscopy, the doctor found 8 small to large polyps near my rectum. I know this will be a tough question for any of you to answer, with little information, but what would you think the chances are that this could be serious?  The only additional note that she had on the report was that she was immediately taking me off of Remicade, but will give me a call next week to tell me what they find from the biopsies. I've had colitis now for about 22 years.

I cannot count how many polyps I have had removed but none of them turned out to be anything serious. I hope you have the same results. I have had colitis for 25 years.

triunbad, I'm just curious but how long ago did you have your previous colonoscopy.

I have also had several polyps removed and they all turned out to benign.

I had my last one in the fall of 2009. The doctor had found a couple of polyps the last time, but he hadn't been all that concerned. This is the first colonoscopy I've had with my new doctor. I think the worst part about it was that she hadn't anticipated it would take as long as it did, so a lot of the drugs had wore off by the time it was done. And with the drugs wearing off, I got many more views of my hairy butt then I ever wanted, every time she took the camera out after taking a biopsy. So there went my post procedure appetite.

They are very common, pretty much everyone has them. We have the advantage of having the "opportunities" to have them seen and evaluated more regularly! That's a good thing!

I have had a good # of polyps removed over the last few years (I am 36 yo). All have came back negative for cancer. One reason to be thankful for more frequent scopes!

I've not heard of polyps being common...but see that it can happen in 7 - 50% of people.   That's a pretty big range to me,

I would concern myself with them being in the rectum since UC's inflammation does start there...

Are you on any rectal meds?

Did the doc remove them all?

Please make sure you get a copy of the results rather than just hearing the results.  You should have it for your records and for your research to know what the exact words mean.

Hi,

My most recent colonoscopy also showed a bunch of polyps too, I see him this Tuesday to find out what the biopsies.
