Has anyone tried an aloe vera enema?

So Im getting desperate to stop this goddarn flare. I need to stop the D. I have 95% or more of the bleeding under control, but still having urgency and D.

Ive read lots of mixed things about drinking aloe, but it seems an enema might be a better way to go... I mean put it where it needs to be rather than digest it and run it through the system, right?

Has anyone tried this?

If I could tolerate retaining small enemas id try a bifidos only retention enema before aloe (honestly, if I was doing enemas anyway, Id do 1 cup retention enemas of that and collodial, 2x per day spaced away from each other.. or a good old soap enema instead of cs - cs, id do 2 tsp to the cup.)

If retaining wasnt an option, Id do the mild soapy enema, 2 liters, 1x per day and flood orally with probiotics. Unresolved d means a blockage somewhere upstream. Usually I can locate that point by doing abdominal massage, but sometimes it can take a really really long time to get it to move.

I have to admit...I've done this. I mix my hydrocort enemas with aloe vera and it works great.

My original thinking behind this was, with additional liquid it would cover more of the effected area.

Maybe it's a little of the placebo effect, but this works great for me. And a bottle of 100% aloe vera is pretty cheap. Might be worth a try.

PK- Soap? Blockage? I doubt I have blockage... When I take psillium, I expel "solids", and sometimes pass (as I did 1/4x last night) some soft formed solids... I think relentless D means endless inflammation, not blockage. But soap? And the bacteria you mention dont even occur in the colon... They are higher up. The desired bacteria Ucers are lacking , that OM posted about a few days a go, are impossible, apparently, to get. Otherwise I would do that asap.

UC42, so you went with the type you apply on skin? I was thinking the juice/drink... How great, If I may, did it work? Are you in remission? I recently did hydrocort enemas, and for one reason or another (I was also messing with slippery elm mixed with probiotics, and the hydro seemed to help.. at first), I got way sick, and lost a precious 10 lbs I couldnt afford to lose.

I use the aloe vera juice. Just make sure you get 100%. Probably don't want any unwanted ingredients.

I haven't used them during my current flare, only because i'm waiting for my health insurance to kick in and I can't afford the enemas at this point.

In the past it's worked great at reducing symptoms of urgency and bleeding.

Hopefully your able to retain the excess fluid. I've never had issues with retaining. Keep us posted if you try it :)

It means blockage for me. You can have d and a blockage. tru fax. Maybe you dont.. but usually for me something will get stuck in an inflammed area of intestine. Its rarely the inflammed intestine on its own. Maybe yours is just totally pissed off and you have nothing lodged making things have to liquify and come around.

Yes, soap enemas.. like your grandma used to use atleast every week when she was young. You swish a gentle soap, usually castile (I like doctor bronner's) in you water a couple times and do a cleansing enema.

bifido bacterium dont occur in the colon? whatcha talking bout willis? they most certainly do.. and an implant of them into the colon is more helpful then eating them. Yes, I know there are all kinds of bacteria.. but bifido will help fight inflammation and you can get it cheap and make your own little natural biologic enema.

Are you serious that a soap enema is not something that is regularly mentioned on this site, but yet we are shooting all kindsa other stuff up our butts? I never wanted to do the high volume enemas when I first was forced to do the meds, but after not having good improvement I had to explore that option and purchase the whole enema bucket set up.

So who here has done either a soap enema.. or bifido enema? Im just afraid of getting worse. I cant do that.

freddy, haven't done any others. ARe you on any probiotics?

You can't take the mesalamine enemas? can you put that in your siggie so I don't keep asking...lol.

I took them to no avail. Im intermittently on probiotics, but dont seem to get much benefit. Just ordered, moments ago, ultimate flora colon care, so Ill give that a $50 month and see... May try asking my worthless Gi for a vsl script, but thats also pricey.

Fair enough.. I'm a big proponent of enemas and very very gentle soapsud ones were my first helpful ones. I googled and see that people often don't use the right soaps or too much. I started out with the castile soap kits. It looks like people use all kinds of soaps which would obviously be horrible. I will retract my suggesion because use, if someone used Irish spring I'm sure it would be irritating.

I've never used more then a swish. It was never irritating, even in the beginning.. Maybe that is a weird experience. I do see lots of bad reports so I am sorry for bad advise since it does seem to cause issues for many.

I kinda get the feeling I'm more aligned to places like cure zone then here so, it's probably pretty pointless for me to continue posting here..

i've never tried aloe enemas but i have done vsl enemas which i think have bifido bacteria. bifido is the highest bacteria in the colon but i've read that UCers can have less due to all the diarrhea.

the enemas didn't do anything at all, but didn't hurt either. just VERY expensive for it to not work so i only did 2 weeks worth of this before stopping.

i'd give it a shot though. aloe and probiotics are less harmful than the meds they stick up your butt. if it doesn't work, at least you can cross it off your list.

People telling you to dilute aloe vera juice for an enema is crazy!! YES do the aloe vera juice enema - you'll be shocked!! (see the end of this reply)

I would make sure it doesn't have preservatives - but I didn't know better when I did it the first time & the stuff had preservatives.

So get an enema bag - the disposable ones. Warm 2 cups of aloe vera on the stove on super low heat until it's a comfortable tempurature when you stick your finger in it.

Put in your enema bag & hang the bag on a door knob or kitchen chair. You lay on the floor on a towel or something - just in case.

Sloooowly let the aloe vera drip or slightly run into your colon (of course you've carefully stuck the little hose that comes with your disposable enema bags far as you comfortably can). It will go pretty darn far to be honest.

There's no air here - so the juice won't gush - don't be scared. I open the tube thingy up to run a little, then stop it for a couple seconds & repeat.

If you do it slowly like this - you will not have any urge to expel UNLESS you didn't get the hose up there far enough or you move around & the hose is wiggling around & your booty hole get's excited.

Keep doing this until all the juice is out of the bag. Then you just lay there massaging your lower tummy. After a bit lay on your back & rub your lower tummy, then turn to the other side, etc.

Do this for 15 or 20 minutes. Now the hysterical part!!!

I got up after 20 minutes, went to the potty and waited. And waited.... and waited!!! NOTHING!!

My body was so starved for the aloe vera juice - it just absorbed the whole kit & kabootle!!!!!

The next day there was no ill effects either. I felt better is all.

Drinking that much aloe vera juice will give most people the runs... but doing it this way - no problem!
