I have heard alot of positive things regarding taking l-glutamine as a supplement for UC. For whoever is currently taking this, i was wondering your dosage and what form: pills or powder. Thanks in advance for your input.

i took the capsule form for a while. Didn't notice a difference so I stopped taking it. I took double the recommended dose on the bottle (I can't recall what it was).

i take it in powder form and about
5g a day. it doesn't make a difference for my UC, but i figure extra stuff for my muscles is always good.

I have gone back and forth on whether it helps or not... And on dosage. about
a year and a half ago, I entered a med free (other than LDN ) remission that coincided with stopping Biologics (humira at the time, as I seemed go be getting some kind of allergic reaction- jaundice and a puffy face), starting oral LDN, and, of interest to your question, massive doses of glutamine. I am talking 20-30 grams a day- and I am small. I didnt keep up the megadoses due to concern over risks if taking such huge amounts of glutamine day after day. In such large doses it can even give me some mild temporary nausea - The remission ended after about
9 months, and when I reflared, I tried glutamine megadoses again but it didnt help. I have generally stuck to 5 g a day but recently, trying to get off low dose pred, I am amongst other things trying megadoses again, this time as much as 40-50 grams (40-50,000 mg) a day.

I will echo bananagirl's post:

except to say that I do feel it is doing my intestinal tract (and therefore my UC) some good. I take it in a glass of water on an empty stomach.

I take l-glutamine for colon repair.
See the following:
http://cureforulcerativecolitis.com/glutamine
My last order was Vitacost brand 2.2 lbs (1000 g).
The serving size is 4.5g.
I take it first thing in the morning in a few ounces of juice along with my probiotics (which are taken on an empty stomach).
Have also used it in shakes.

Thanks for everyone's input so far. I work out alot, weights, crossfit, etc so anything to help muscle recovery and possibly help my UC is worth the effort. I've found out that some things that work for some people, might not work for others. I will just have to experiment and see how it goes. I will let you guys know how I make out.
It's always something: I will check out that website you posted about
lglutamine being a cure for UC and get back to you.
Thanks.

Hey Dallas,
I'm kinda in the same boat as you - try to stay active and fit when I can while also battling this "s*tty" disease.
I actually just bought some l-glutamine last night but haven't tried it yet cause I'm always weary about
trying new things with meds and such. I'm hoping it helps quickly with building muscle, and maybe get a long term bonus with my colon.
Seems to be a lot of mixed answers on whether it helped, but how about
- has anyone had BAD responses to L-glutamine?

Powdered is better IMO.
I use it in my protein shakes, around 5g daily.
When I was flaring backk then, I used 15g daily.

i started l-glutmaine last friday. can't really say for sure if it's helped, but today seems to be a bit better today, the previous days have been filled with pain and blood though.

It's suppose to help heal the lining, but I read somewhere it was more for the small intestines and maybe the stomach. There are some good reports out there. I give my son Intestinew powder form, 5g a day (1 scoop). It has good soothers in it also.
