Salofalk...Can't keep it in.

Hey,
I just started taking Salofalk rectal suspension again, haven't been on it in about a year. I can not seem to keep it in for longer then a min or two. I try so hard laying there on the bathroom floor but Its too painful. I had this problem the last time I took it also. I do find that this med does help with the calming down the blood loss. But I need to know what to do to help keep it in longer. Any advice?

i warm up my enemas a lot first (ie: put them right in front of my heater for a few minutes) & i find this REALLY helps with being able to hold them in - if they are too cold there is no hope for me.

i also don't know how people do it on the floor!! i always do them laying on my side in bed, but my room is also right beside the bathroom so i can get there quickly - i suppose it would depend on what your situation is. you could put down a towel if you are worried.

it sometimes also helps to only dispense a little bit of the enema at a time if i am having troubles retaining. as soon as i get that feeling that i may have to go, i stop & wait a few minutes before dispensing any more.

Why the bathroom floor? Go lay in your bed, bring all the stuff you need to be beside the bed.

I, on occasion, have put the enema in wherever if my husband is sleeping (work early the next morning) so that I don't wake him...but I'd never stay in that place other than my bed.

Make sure you're squeezing the air out of the top of the bottle and try using just half to see if that helps. Once you can retain half, then try a whole one again.

Do you have a BM before inserting enema?
If not, the enema could be stimulating one.

I used to lay on my left side in bed before inserting. It can be messy especially when using lube. Put an old towel under you to protect bed linens and mattress.
Then lay on your left side for at least 1/2 hour. I usually fell asleep in this position.
Playing soothing/meditation music helps.

Yeah I always have a BM before using it. I'll try using half and see how that goes. I use the bathroom floor because I always have to go so quickly and I wouldn't make it from my bed to the bathroom. But, I will try maybe i would feel more relaxed and not think about it as much if im in bed.
