Starting prednisone cycle without doctors consent

Sorry I've posted a few posts, but i just wanted to ask this question directly

Been having upper stomach pain right across, feels inflamed & feel feverish

Had it before, lasts days, only thing that helped was prednisone

Its the weekend, cannot get in contact with the doctor
Been taking predsol enemas for 4days, not helping, only slowing D down and hardening the poop a little


Male 21 y/o - Australia - Diagnosed - Indeterminate Colitis then lead to > Ulcerative Colitis (March 2012)
Meds:
- Mezavant (Mesalamine) 4.8G Daily
- Imuran 150MG Daily
- Predsol Enema (3days into it)


Probiotics - Vitamin D - L-Glutamine (started 2 weeks ago) - Turmeric (here and there)

How long have you been on Imuran?

How much mg are you trying to start of the prednisone?

Imuran - maybe 5-6 months not to sure but around there......

I'm thinking of starting at 25mg, then tappering every 3 days till 15, then every 5 days......

have never been on anything over 30mg with prednisone...

I don't think the Imuran is doing a darn thing for you. At that dose for 5 or 6 months you should have gotten a lot better, not worse. It is a very dangerous drug to take if it isn't even going to do anything. I would start back up on the pred. Your plan on that sounds good to me. I would seriously think about talking to the doctor of dumping Imuran.

Yeah thats exactly how i feel, the only thing i feel it does is stop urgency when i have D..... but right now this upper inflammation is ridiculous could hardly sleep.. should i start the pred :S

For what it's worth I would give the pred a try. I'm doing the same thing after my not o great doctor prescribed only a week course of pred starting at 50mg and tapering off completely within a week. I saw improvement after th first few ads but f course went backwards by the end of the week.
I've gone back on 50 mg for 4 days - with good results - tred to taper to 25mg but fell back again. Am on 37mg and oing to stay on this for another five days then try to taper to 25mg.

you really have to be careful with the prednisone taper, i know my GI really insists on a much slower taper 5-10mg every ten days max.

started at 30mg. i usually taper by 5, every 5-7days... but last time i was on pred the doc said taper from 30 to 25 and 25 to 20, in 3days for each

I too am on 150mg of Imuran. Tapered off Pred Jan 30, but for the last week I have noticed things slowly backsliding. Fatigue has been rough and tonight a hard to deny amount of blood. My issues are higher up so enemas haven't been an option. Don't really want to go back on Pred, but I want to feel good.

Sami127, I know what you're going through because I'm going through the same thing in a way. I was put on remicade and it didn't do the trick for me so I'm now on prednisone 45 Mg.
I hope everything goes great for you! The prednisone sometimes is the only think that will make you feel better when you're in so much pain

Took the pred an 4 hours ago, stomach pain/inflammation starting to feel better.. its ridiculous because before i could feel the pain while walking!!!
