Hi UCwhat
I am a voracious reader, and even more so now that I have UC. I am also in a book group, which I love as it really expands my horizons. Reading helps me escape and feel mentally strong.
If you like suspense, Gone Girl
by Gillian Flynn is amazing. I also really like Harlan Coben. He has a "Myron Bolitar" series...start with the first. He also has "stand alone" books that can be read in any order.
Right now, I'm reading Ian McEwan's Sweet Tooth. He also wrote Atonement, Saturday, On Chesil Beach. A beautiful writer.
My mind is flooding with ideas, so I'm just going to throw out some of my favorite authors: Richard Russo is amazing. I especially liked "Empire Falls" and "Bridge of Sighs". Richard Ford is a fave too..my husband likes him a lot. Start with "The Sportscaster"...it's #1 of a trilogy. Louise Erdrich is good. She has a new book out, "Round House" that my book club is reading next month. Steve Eggers is a distinct voice..his memoir is excellent as is his account of Hurricaine Katerina.
For non fiction, Jon Krakauer, "Into Thin Air" is a must...about climbing Mt. Everest. "The Perfect Storm" is exciting too.
Also, I am a member of "Goodreads" online. You log your books, rate them, etc. It's great, because whenever anyone give me a recommendation, I log it on right then and there on my phone as "to read"..otherwise I have scraps of paper all over and never remember the title when I go to the Library. It will also tell you when an author you like is publishing a new book. Plus, it makes "lists"...as in "If you like Harlan Coben, try xyz".
Hope this helps....it made me happy to respond!
