What do you do for a living?

Well I wear a couple different hats that are like an Indy pit crew squeezing out engine performance and a firefighter dealing with emergencies. I handle large critical databases that are behind websites and large companies. When they fail I am expected to put out the fire and get humpty dumpty back together again. When that is not happening I am expected make every question to the database run in seconds instead of minutes or hours.

Odd thing is when I did the job alone, on pager 24x7 for 2 years I did not flare despite the stress, since they hired me some help ( used to be a 3 man team ) I have been battling UC related health issues. Many things changed besides work though, we moved into a custom built home that brought more problems than it solved initially and I took full time full custody of my daughter and even let me ex back in for 6 weeks.

My field is changing rapidly as open source FREE database software is gaining momentum to handle 'big data' so I can never stop learning. Now LAW is a field I considered when younger and that field is subject to substantially less rapid rate of change.

My husband and I own a web/software dev company and I work as a technology consultant. Hence why Im constantly on the computer. These days I have the luxury of just working on the projects I want and my heart is in educational and health related nonprofits.

I'm an office clerk.

I'm a stay at home mom for the last 7 years :)

CPA in the investment management industry.

I work for a large discount broker. Mandatory overtime until tax day :-D

An Executive Assistant for 2 VP's and team of 12 for large company.  Most times very high stress, not so easy to call in sick (only missed 2.5 days)...they have been pretty patient so far with me the last 2 months (during my first and current flare, many tests, many Dr.'s appointments for Dx), although I got a "look" from one of them today when I said I would have to go in for more testing when my Dr. comes back from vacation next week.... :) (dr. mentioned may have crohn's/colitis - but need more tests).

 

I am disabled (Mental illness), but I attend school to be a therapist (Go figure) when I am not sick .

Right now my job is recovering from surgery and hoping my short term disability comes through!!

In my real life I direct a couple news casts each day for a local TV station. This was VERY tough while flaring since I can't really move from my seat during the entire live broadcast. Luckily my employers/managers and everyone were very supportive and understanding. They did everything possible to make it so that I could work until the Friday before my surgery, which was on a Wednesday. I certainly missed some days and was barely there many days...but I did it!!

When I first showed symptoms I owned my own bar. Now I work in Well Interventions offshore in Norway.

Such a diverse group with many interesting jobs!

I have a degree in math and computer science.
Worked for 5 years as a high school math teacher.
Moved on to a large insurance company where I held various positions as a computer programmer (APL), financial analyst and liaison between business and IT people.

Took early retirement (package) at age 57.
Have enjoyed every minute of retirement despite UC diagnosis at age 60.

Self employed intruder alarm and CCTV installer in the UK, i can work when i want to and be as flexible as i want. If i had a proper job I don't think i would be coping very well.
