Tingling in hands - pred?

The last few weeks, my hands "fall asleep" really often and really quickly whenever I raise them above chest level. For example, I take a body pump class at the gym and my hands fall asleep while Im holding the barbell on my back doing squats. Is this a pred side effect? They quickly go back to normal after I lower them below chest level and move them around a bit to wake them up. I'll be off pred next week...not sure if it is at all related or even anything to worry about. Thoughts?

this happened to me daily while on pred. i remember i would have my friends/family rub my hands all the time because they were always cold and tingling. i had a lot of water retention in my hands though so i couldn't bend the fingers or use my hands at all.

Thanks guys. Guessing thats the culprit and it should go away soon then. I didn't have any other side effects on it luckily. Just wanted to be sure it wasnt something serious.

How long were you on them Carlie?

I had perfect 20/10 vision my whole life, flew 2000 hours, night freight, flight instructor.

Then I took prednisone and needed glasses. Just picked up a new pair last weekend from lenscrafters.

I have clotted twice on prednisone, yet all hospital labs so I am not hypercoag, 12 vials sent to Mayo came back negative for pre-existing clotting disorder like Factor V Leiden, Protein C, Protein S. Seems that anemia and prednisone concurrently simulate a clotting disorder in my blood.

Ive been off pred 3 days and tingling isnt getting better. Does it take a while to get better? Hands almost went numb during squats in body pump class the other day.

Kate's book helped me avoid the approved carpal tunnel surgeries in both wrists.

She has a simple test to see if that is your problem. Basically you hold hands in front of you - palms down then bend wrists and have both backs of the hands come together so both wrists are fully bent and are actually touching above the hands with palms facing away from each other.

If the fingers go numb in less than a minute you have carpal tunnel syndrome.

My mother just had surgery last week on her elbow area to remove impingement there of the same nerve and it can also be thoracic outlet syndrome where the nerve is pinch as it exists the vertabrae in the neck.

I was just reading thru the comments of many doctors I saw after the auto accident as I prepare my medical claim on the other driver. One thing they pointed out was raising my hands made the left one white. I have a clot in one of two arteries supplying the hand. Try the Allen's test.

Well, at least you're consistent. You should let the doc know.

Sara - how is the pred working this time? What dosgae did you start at and what is your taper? I hope you are feeling better.

I got the tingles too. Sleepy sleepy hands. LOL.

I'm so glad you are better! Hopefully this round will give you a better remission than before and you can skip a night of rectals ;) By my 3rd round last year it really healed things up. Then I was just challenged with the mental aspect and fear of flaring again.

Tingles were random and funny to me. I will take that over some of the other side affects any day!!!!

Huh, weird...I had a bit of this today as I carried some heavy bags, though my main issue has been muscle craps--they're usually just in my feet but had them in my hands lately as well.
