coffee?

So I worked up the courage to try a cup of coffee yesterday. Haven't had one since my first flare almost 2 years ago, during which it was clear that coffee would send me straight to the bathroom. Right now I am not totally in remission, but doing pretty well with minimal symptoms. I had half a cup of coffee with just a smidge of organic sugar and cream...and I did just fine with it! Yay!!!  Still think I'll stick to tea most of the time, but it's nice to know that I can have an occasional cup of coffee without a problem.

yes sugar is bad very bad, but we are all different, so find what is OK and what goes on your forbidden list. Hey Quincy -do you take Rowasa with a side of cream in your coffee? : )

Before I was diagnosed with UC last year I realized coffee was making me sick so I quit drinking it - even though I missed it severely
Then while on vacation in CO I decided to treat myself to 2 cups one morning AND a bowl of cereal with milk. That really did me in. I was in so much abdominal pain and D that I was having visions of an ambulance coming to get me in a cabin out in the middle of nowhere. What's worse is the cabin had old plumbing and you had to throw your tp in a trash can! We won't be staying there again! Since then coffee smells good but just doesn't taste the same. If I do have a cup it's tiny and mixed with water. I always drink it black.

As in an outhouse?  I don't mind going in the woods - a positive for me since nobody is usually around when a D attack occures.  However, I wouldn't want to have to sit in one of those for longer than a few seconds - the hole always freaks me out!

When I first got diagnosed with UC, it was horrible. It sure beat the alt of stomach cancer, but nonetheless. For the first 2-3 yrs I struggled, and as a long time HS football coach, who was frequently a long away from a bathroom, I got used to finding a private outdoor spot if need be, and letting nature take it's course. My practice field is a 5 minute walk to the locker room, so you can imagine my early dilemma. Rather than hide it, I just told everyone, and sd "sometimes when I beeline to behind the bleachers, woods, or whatever, that's why. They all found it funny and we moved on. I've actually coached some kids with it, and that was tougher.

Back to our friends point about "coffee" being a stale thread. I think UC is a fluid, everchanging disease with everchanging ideas and breakthroughs. Older thread are informative, but with dated info, so I think we need to keep revisiting older topics for newbies, and such who might bring something new to the table.

Flare getting better I think, lots less bleeding, which is good cause I'm out of all my old meds. Time for coffee:D
