Borned and raised in the US, but parents are from Punjab.

My diet has always been Punjabi food until my disease started getting worse. This includes heavy wheat (roti), lentil, lots of chicken, spices, etc.

Now I am presidnone to get out of a really bad flare and its been well. I am on Imuran, which my GI prescribed me a month ago as Asacol wasn't helping. I had been Asacol for about a year.

None of you (including me) represent India anymore. I came across a literature where they concluded that whatever ethnicity you belong or wherever you came from, you represent overall population of the country you grow up in or 5-10 years before this disorder kicks in.

In that way, both of you represent US population and I represent Swedish population, weird conclusion but holds up at a times. For e.g. Somalians have very low incidences (rare) of IBD in Somalia but those who live in Sweden represent same number as Swedish population (and sure they do not eat Swedish kind of food).

Your daughter is smart for avoiding that kind of stuff. If it helps her great. I did exclude this stuff one by one to see the effect and did nothing to me, so I am back on regular diet (but I never eat any processed food or eat in restaurants).

My parents are Indian from Bombay, and I have lived in mostly northern places like Buffalo NY, Anchorage AK, Amsterdam NL and now in London, UK. There are lots of first/second generation south asians with IBD in the UK. There are several studies on this but I am not sure if these south asians have the same rates as locals.

When I lived in Anchorage, my gastro (1 of 2 in town) would tell me that I was one of the two most severe cases of UC he had seen and the other person had moved south. Based on that hearsay, I would say there are not many UC cases in AK or maybe they all move south. There is not a lot of light in winter there (6 hours in January), and my worst flareup there was just after a fun Super Bowl sunday party in January. Should have gotten a full spectrum light for the winters, maybe I should still get one, some people use them in London too, although they are everywhere in AK.

Hi, i am chinese, 20 years old. I have been diagnosed with proctitis in the rectal area last year when sudden bleeding and cramping occured. I have done a colonoscopy and it show non specific chronic colitis in the biopsies taken from my rectum. However, i have a question here..... i always have slight pain almost everyday until today which is already 10 months time. On may this year, i went to a GI and he do a sigmoidoscopy again and found no evidence of colitis. Everything looks normal. However, i have a very slight pain almost everyday. When i eat foods that irritates my bowel, i start to get diarrhea and bleed again. I have flare up a coupke times dy and i am not on medication. My dr ask me to control my eating habit and food. However, since last week, my symptons get a little different. I have a very sticky and broken poop every bowel movement and not much of them. Usually i do poop alot last time once a day. Then after 2 days or 3 days, at night i wil have a one time diarrhea. Just 1 time. What could it be? Could it be sonething bad happened in just 10 months? I am kinda worry now.....
