Claritin for allergies

I had to take something for my allergies. They are terrible. I started taking Claritin. Anyone else take this and should it be ok with my colitis medicines?

I took Claritin before UC. I didn't find it or Zyrtec very effective but Allegra helps me. To each their on.

I know it's a different drug, but I don't think your UC or UC meds should be effected. You can probably call up your Dr.'s nurse just to make sure.

Yes, some people don't get relief with Claritin (my DH for example) he had to try several before finding one that worked. I LOVE Claritin-D (the one you have to go to the desk and sign for) nothing else works for sinus congestion for me.

I take Zyrtec daily for chronic hives. No problems. There shouldn't be much of a difference between that, or Allegra, or Claritin (or Benadryl)--they all work by blocking the same receptor.

Glad you're improving, Michelejc. I got hit with pollen allergy earlier this month, grrrrr! It kicked up 4 days after c-scope so I was lucky with that. (Last yr it clobbered me in late February.) This time my eustachian tubes started to hurt, then my nose started running. Last yr eyes were bothered 1st. Drives me nuts! But now after 2 weeks the reaction seems to be dying down on its own. My gastro is not big on recommending antihistamines, but has o.k.ed regular Sudafed in the past for nasal congestion. It seems that many of us on the forum are affected by seasonal allergies. I never had them before UC, but did react allergically to insect bites back then. / Old Hat (32 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

I sometimes have to get Sudafed (or similar generic) when my allergies are really bad. My eustachian tubes get SO BAD!
