Like many of you with UC, I struggle to maintain a good weight, especially since I'm genetically on the skinnier side to begin with. I'm trying to get back into weight training to gain some body mass, but getting a decent amount of protein in a UC diet is difficult. When I eat meat or poultry, I have to cook it in a very specific way to avoid irritation so it's often difficult to have it ready to consume when I need it, and difficult to consume it in large quantities (overeating is a big no no with my UC). When I was initially diagnosed with UC a few years ago I had to give up regular whey protein powder. I am thinking about
trying a whey protein isolate, specifically the unflavored version of Isopure. There is absolutely nothing in it except whey protein isolate (so no additives or sweeteners of any kind), which they market as completely lactose free.
Have any of you had any experience with whey isolate powders after your UC diagnosis? If so, how did it go? Has anyone tried the unflavored version of Isopure?
Just in case anyone doesn't know, whey protein isolate is different than regular whey protein powders. Whey isolate is a very concentrated protein powder that has been separated from most, if not all other ingredients that make up normal whey protein powder, including lactose.
I realize there have been similar discussions on here in the past, but most of them are from years ago. Thanks everyone!
