Just found out I need a total colectomy-what hospital?

I was advised by my doctor to go to mount Sinai in ny.. I'm in ct not far from there . Another option is Hartford hospital in ct...just wondering if anyone here had any info or experiences with any of these hospitals...thanx

Chronic uc for 30 years, although I thought I was in remission for most of that time- recent colonoscopy showed large aggressive growing polyp near end of my colon, doctor says it always turns to cancer, but is benign now..also too large to remove with scope. The rest of the colon is totally enflamed.my next step is to meet with a doctor from mt. Sinai as soon as he gets back from his conference in fla. hopefully this specialist will have another option than removing entire colon..

I'm 56, was told my small intestine was healthy, so they would use that and make a loop by my rctum and connect up that way wasn't sure what that operation was called. Would start out with a colectomy bag, then have the second operation to hook me up again

I had my surgery done at the Lahey Clinic outside of Boston with Dr. Marcello. He was recommended to me. As my jpouch is not being used yet, I can't talk about the final outcome, but I really liked him and he has lots of experience. He was at the Cleveland Clinic and then moved to Lahey. He is easy to get along with and takes the time to listen and answer questions clearly. Good luck!

If you go to Mt Sinai, consult with Dr. Joel Bauer. I interviewed him and I liked him a lot but long story short I ended up having my surgeries in Philly instead. Good luck!
