So the doc called and I'm kinda confused

I've never had a GI out of 4 that ever wanted me to split my dose, they've all wanted me to take the full amount first thing in the am.

Splitting makes a huge dfference for me.

I was initially on 30mg and it just wasn't cutting it. I tried 10 + 10 +10 20 +10 and 30mg by itself.
My Doc upped the dose to 40mg since 2 days. I have been taking 20mg + 20mg 5:00AM and then at 2:00PM. This gets me till 11:00pm. I get bloody diaherra by the end of the night. I then take the hydrocortisone enema at night and get to sleep for a few hours.

For me taking 40mg one shot does not get me till 11:00pm... the meds wear off around 7:00pm. I start cramping and there are several bms with painful bloody diahrrea.

I am on my 8th day on Prednisone.

This is a personal preferance thing not only for the patients but for the doctors too. In the end, in most cases, I don't think it really matters one way or the other.

I've only been on pred once and my GI had me split the dose. I started at 40 mg and took 10 mg at breakfast, lunch, dinner, and bedtime. Each time I dropped down, I dropped the last dose of the day. I slept like a rock the entire time I was on it and my symptoms were totally gone by the second day. Also, my GI had me taper off by going from 10 mg daily to 10 mg every other day, then off. I was also only on the higher doses for a very short period of time.

It's pretty different than what I've seen most others do, and some people on here said my GI was nuts. However, I got off of it easily and still haven't had another flare, and it's been 4 years of remission now. My GI said that splitting the dose like that is less suppressive to the adrenals.

I take mine all at once in the evening because I was STARVING all day long.  I sleep okay. 

Soy: I'm just not really sure why you have this thing against me. You take a shot at me every chance you get. For the record, I have taken pred once during my UC bout (although I did not take it for UC) and I have taken pred a lot with my first autoimmune disease, although it did absolutely nothing for my first autoimmune disease. It did help my UC. I have years of experience with pred concerning my first autoimmune disease and have taken it at doses that would curdle your toenails, even though I am an average size person. I was on another board for years with my first autoimmune disease and gained the pred experience of many of them as well as my own personal experiences. Most people on this forum don't have any idea of what it is like to take doses of pred around 80-100 mgs per day and all the different tapers, etc that me and the others went through. Pred for UC is like a walk in the park compared to what we went through at those extreme doses. I was also a forum moderator on that forum for years and even wrote and took part in designing certain web pages, including treatment options (pred included). Since I cured myself of that first autoimmune disease I don't participate there anymore, especially since I have joined the UC club (involuntarily). So far I refuse to take pred for UC because I know that with UC or any other autoimmune disease pred only works while you are on it and not after you taper down low or off and that the many side effects it gives you are not worth being on it. My GI must feel this same way because he has never once even brought up pred, even though it is a standard treatment that almost everyone gets.

So I took 20mg this morning and planning on taking the other 20mg around 5pm. It has been a much rougher day doing it this way. Less energy and definitely cramping a bit more. Yesterday, while taking it all in the AM, I was able to eat a big lunch and not use the restroom for a few hours. Today, with splitting the dose, I just had lunch and kind of crampy. It's like the 20mg in the morning isn't enough to kick things into gear. Should I just keep doing it this way anyways since it's what the doc wants?

Literally 2 minutes after I posted just now, the nurse called. She said the doc said it was fine to take it all at once. Today marks my 4th week at 40+ mg of Pred and I asked about a taper and she said the doc needs to see me to discuss that and to stay at 40. I'm really afraid of being at such a high dose for so long :( :( ugh I have an appt. Tuesday. Why does he need to 'see' me to discuss a taper.
