I was diagnosed with UC when I was 13. I had all three surgeries when I was around 17, emergency removal of colon and rectum and then creation of a j-pouch. I was just wondering when everyone else got diagnosed and if they have had any operations?

I was diagnosed at 22 but I've never had surgery and only hospitalized once in 20 years.

I was diagnosed at 22, although I had symptoms since 19. After 9+ years of living with this horrid disease I am going to be having a proctocolectomy with end ileostomy in the next couple of weeks.

I was 21 (had just had my birthday), although I had symptoms when I was 19. Most of my flares were very short and I easily went into remission with Asacol, but this current flare has lasted a very long time (well over a year) and I'm managing it with 6MP and Remi.

Thanks! I really appreciate you taking the time to reply, I have never spoken with anyone who has experienced anything like me. It is really nice to know that I am not alone!

I was diagnosed when I was 19, but had bad symptoms around 6 months before being diagnosed or seeing a doctor. That was 3 years ago, I am now 21.
I have not had surgery but have recently been through a lot of meds and other options this most recent flare (which is still going on).

I was 14, i'm now nearly 36.
Was hospitalised in December 1991 a few weeks before Christmas.
UC caused severe joint pain 3 times which i was hospitalised for a few years after first dx.
Recently was in hospital for pneumonia caused by taking Mercaptopurine.
Not been admitted for direct UC symptoms since 1991 but i've always had grumbling symptoms for the past 10 to 15 years.
Now its come time to end this waking nightmare forever and have requested surgery.

Are you considering surgery?

I never had a bowel complaint until I was 33, when I ate shrimp at a fish fry two Fridays in a row.
I was 34 when I was finally diagnosed with UC.

I was diagnosed at age 5 (although my parents think I'd had UC since birth). Had ileostomy surgery at 10 years of age and have never ever regretted it. That was 36 years ago!
