ouch help!

was told i have a mild form of colitis in april.....havent had any flare ups until now. usual blood with bowel movement but the last couple days ive had alot of white mucus on my stool too. now for the last 2 hours this morning its very painful having a bowel movement but i cant stop using the bathroom. feels like i have so much pressure in my rectum, hurts to sit and all the seems to help is to walk around. has anyone ever experienced this before? im unable to get into my doctors until tomorrow and this is pretty painful, im not sure what to do until then

i have a 15 month old that isnt very cooperative and i dont really want to chance him getting sick from sitting in the waiting room for hours or having to chase him around. trying to find someone to come watch him so i can even just try to sneak into the doctors. im just curious if theres anything i can do at home to help with it. i also started drinking kombucha tea being told that will help with digestive problems, and am really hoping that isnt causing my flare up to be so bad

I actually just had similar pain last night. It almost feels as if I pulled a muscle in my rectum or something! It was very, very difficult to sit down, to the point where I jumped up a few times as I was trying to sit on the couch. Boooooooo!

My pain lasted almost 12 hours, but after a while, it stopped getting worse and slowly lessened. If you're still in pain after 24 hours, or the pain becomes much, much worse, I would either call your doctor immediately, or head to the ER. Most hospitals and practices have on-call specialists; last time I had a question that couldn't wait till 9am the next morning, I called the on-call GI fellow. She was very helpful, and I saved myself the trouble of an ER visit!

my pain slowly eases off just abit and then it seems like i have the constant urge to use the bathroom and the pain gets so much worse. ive lost 22 pounds since january and eat healthy, barely drink anymore. i exersise and get a decent amount of sleep. this feels like internal hemmohoirds x 100 im very worried because colon cancer and crohns runs in both sides of my family

i would ditch the tea if i were you - i don't think it's beneficial at this point - maybe later - maybe try some ginger tea instead -

my stools are loose. ive only had 2 bloody ones since this started this morning. and for healthy eating i eat salads, chicken and eggs....we dont eat any fast food. i have the odd glass of wine and maybe 3 cups of coffee a week. we dont eat take out or alot of greasy food. ive been working with a trainer since january so ive cleaned up my diet quite abit since then. all this pain is new to me. whenever i had any problems before it was just alot of bleeding and the odd hemmohroid while pregnant. i just laid down for 2 hours, woke up feeling better and thinking that mustve been a dream but as soon as i went pee and sat down, just the position of sitting started bringing it back again....now the pains back just not as extreme as what it was this morning when i was constantly having small lose bowel movements. all day ive been feeling like ive got a spiked bat up my ***. this is awful and my heart goes out to you guys that have been enduring this for awhile :(

Sorry to hear you're flaring up. What you're going through is pretty normal for a person with UC. I wouldn't go crazy thinking it's Cancer, just keep getting frequent screenings since you have a family history. It sounds to me like you need to get in to see your GI. If you're having symptoms like cramping, the inflammation has probably extended past a point where salofalk enemas can treat. I remember when I went from having a mild case of UC to a more severe case, I began having cramping and tons of frequency and blood. I was using rectal meds but I couldn't get things under control until I took oral meds too.

See if dropping roughage (salads, raw veggies, etc) from your diet helps at all. It might not--a lot of people are still able to eat the same foods they normally do. My symptoms get worse when I eat roughage, because it's so rough on my colon tissue.

When my flares are terrible, I mostly eat crackers, white pasta, Jello, bagels, and lean meats. I also drink a lot of juice (orange juice, grapefruit juice, or V8 Vfusion), both to stay hydrated, and to get some nutrients that I'm not getting because I've stopped eating fruits and veggies.

For me, eating salad is not eating healthy at the moment :(

The pain I had was flare-related, and the meds I'm on are helping to end my flare. My meds aren't first-line meds; they're for flares that don't respond to medications like Asacol HD or Lialda (mesalamine pills). Rectal meds are great, but it sounds like yours are not helping enough! I would ask your doctor about oral mesalamine before you would ask for the kinds of meds I'm on.

Roughage just makes my symptoms even worse (increases bleeding and mucus, as well as discomfort, increases bathroom trips, makes BMs looser), although only when I'm flaring. I'm much less physically miserable on my restricted diet, but when I get back into remission (no symptoms), I am eating all of the salad in the world.
