Please help me. So desperate.

hello.

i am 24 and have been diagnosed for a little over two years now with ulcerative colitis. last colonoscopy was about two years ago. i am on mezavant, 4 pills daily. also on vancocin right now to treat a suspected c diff infection.

i am not in a flare. no red blood. no diarrhea... yet on my stool there is usually always mucus with thin black streaks in it. it is not mixed into the stool unless it is quite loose. simply on it. its mostly the first stool of the day or the first stool in a while, after i go a bit more it becomes clear. still i am terrified of what this could be. i feel fine, no flaring, no diarrhea, no weight loss, etc... like i said. i just read another girl with this symptom being concerned about cancer and now i feel so scared.

my gastro said she wants to do another colonoscopy if this doesn't go away to check for internal hemmorhoids (which i know i have), but i am so scared right now i really need some help. i have an anxiety disorder so it's so easy for my mind to go from zero to ten in seconds flat.

anyone experience this black streaked mucus? i really appreciate anything you can tell me :(

thank so much for your answer. it's just, this was happening even before the antibiotics and it's not black stool, just black streaked mucus. i am so confused. the doctor knows about this and doesn't seem in too much of a panic but when i read another girl was scared about cancer i got so terrified. deep breaths... deep breaths.

mlena89, would you be willing to take a picture? I find it hard to imagine what it looks like.

I've had two members of my family (one blood related, the other not) who've had colon cancer, and I hope I can reassure you that the fact that you feel completely fine otherwise means there's no reason to suspect cancer.

I tend to go to worst case scenario a LOT. Sometimes, that's a good thing--I like to feel prepared! But when it comes to stuff like colitis, thinking about worst case scenario is not only unhelpful, but it also ends up terrifying me until I feel paralyzed.

I can't say, "GEEZ just stop feeling anxious!" because it's not like that ever helps. But sometimes it helps me to just remind myself that I always feel worse when I play "worst case scenario" with my health.

Could it be the mezavant? Like dark streaks of almost purplish black? Thats the colour of mezavant...

wow thanks for all the answers!! I'm not on iron and my mezavant is red with white filling. I could try to take a photo but its often so minor its hard to notice. I can't believe how much attention I pay to the bathroom!
