I've noticed that mesalamine suppositories or foam help me with the burning feeling in my rectum but in the bm after having one dose I've got lot of mucus. If I skip one dose my bm has also blood but no mucus. ¿Have you noticed this effect? ¿Is this good or bad? I am reaching one year in my flare and at first mesalamine suppositories almost stopped my bleeding but at this moment I'm starting to lose my faith in mesalamine.

Is it mucus or white substance from the suppository?

It is certainly mucus.

When I use Canasa, I definitely see a mucus-y type substance. I don't get that with the enemas.

Welcome to the forum firelord.
What other meds are you on?

You should consider moving up from the suppositories to a 4g enema. After a year it seems clear that the suppositories or foam is not enough to get you into remission. The enema will give you more coverage and hopefully get rid of all the inflammation plaguing you.

I think you shouldn't focus on the mucus. Ask the doc for a higher prescript
ion dosage of enema and continue using it until all is good.
What's the longest you've used the rectal meds at one time...consistently nightly/daily?
You've only scratched the surface of mesalamine options...your loss of faith is premature.
What type of bms are you having?

Hi, thanks for your answers. I don't think my GI will take the path of 4g enemas because my proctitis was (and I hope it don't extend) very limited. I've been using rectal meds consistenly since august 2012. My bms are quite normal but there is always blood. I am really afraid because I think my next step is going to be prednisone or similar. At the moment i'm using 6 pills (0,5g each) + 1 supp (0,5g) + 1 foam (1g) all mesalamine, daily.

try full dose mesalamine oral AND enema before jumping to higher meds (IMO)
4.8g oral and 4g rectal helped me when just proctitis....
and then.... if not working to end bleeding.... push for steroid enema or Uceris before going oral steroid ( assuming you are only dealing with proctitis of course)
might need another scope to see what is going on though
