hey guys. so im still waiting i guess for something else to happen inorder for the doctor to want to do more testing for me to find out if i have chrones or uc. so far ive done a week of my salfaulk enemas and im still in the middle of my flareup....first day started with lots of pain then bleeding, to white mucus covering my bm, to black mucus back to just alot of blood now...and i mean alot. i was given entocort enemas as well to use if the salfaulk didnt fix things up and im on night 3 of those. she only gave me a weeks worth, so is this normal to go from a week of salfaulk into almost half a week of entocort and still having lost of bleeding?? im starting to get a little concerned because she had mentioned if these didnt work i might have to start taking presidone and i really would like to avoid that. ive head good things about asacol and another one that started with "I". has anyone else had no luck with entocort or have taken those other 2 medications? were also starting to try to get pregnant again and am not sure how those would play out with that. im new to all this so any help or advice would be great...you know how doctors can be shakehead

I don't think you should take prednisone without trying oral mesalamine first. It sounds like perhaps your flare up is beyond the area that can be treated with rectal medication but that doesn't necessarily mean it's severe and requires prednisone. Have you had a colonoscopy for diagnosis? Do you know if there were biopsies and what they indicated? Sometimes the salofalk can appear like black or purple stuff in your BM. I think what you're going through is normal, especially if you're only treating with rectal meds and you have anything beyond left-sided colitis. The medication with an I might be Imuran. It is a medication to suppress the immune system. I don't think you're at the point of anything like that. Have you had stool tests? Tried antibiotics? Imuran would be in the case that you tried all the mesalamine options, prednisone and rectals or you can't taper off prednisone.

Yes I had a colonoscopy n they did a biopsy. All I was told was it looked like.mild colitis n just localized inflammation. That was back the end of March n a couple weeks ago is when I had the bad flareup with all the pain. My symptoms changed from just bleeding to the pain and the white and black mucus. That's when I was told that by the sounds o my sytems its either chrones or uc but other then bloodwork and trying a new enema, that's all I've been told. I'm not sure y she just jumped to presidone either. I seen salfaulk can be taken in pill form too so maybe ill be asking to try that?? I really don't know what else to say or ask her about because this is all so new to me. All I know is a week on the salfaulk didn't help like it did after my scope and it almost seems to have gotten worse since starting the entocort. Other then that all I was given was boscupan incase I have pain during a flareup again

Using the enemas nightly? or have you missed any?

It can take a while for them to work....and in reality, you should also start on a low dose of oral 5ASA as well...And the Salofalk in pill form in conjunction with the rectal form will help you get your flare controlled. Patience.

I'd put of trying to get pregnant for a while.

Are you on any hormone meds?
