Been flaring for 8 weeks as of Sunday...my worst ever.

C-scope last week showed severe pancolitis, 30 bloody trip to the BR day...and night.

Couple of days ago I bought a pack of cigarettes...my UC was first diagnosed within 6 months of quitting 4 years ago.

I have since smoked a total of 11 cigarettes over the past 3 days.  I almost immediately noticed an improvement in my symptoms.

Today...a new milestone (?)  This is the TMI part...

 

My first symptom attributable to UC (other than vague gut discomfort) was the passing of mucus balls.  GROSS!  Like the size of a raspberry.

I didn't have any idea what the heck they were or why I had them.  I looked up some info online and other people were experiencing the same thing and did not know why.

To myself, I called them ASSteroids. Sorry.

Well, today I have them.  I am HOPING it means that my condition might be resolving to an early portending flare state.

YAY, ASSTEROIDS!

Glad your symptoms are improving but wouldn't this mean you have to keep smoking? I mean, once you stop you could flare all over again. It's trading one set of problems for another. Okay I'm not going to lecture...not my place!

My GI once told me you will never see a smoker with UC. Hopefully you can go into remission AND not smoke too. Good luck!

That's not too bad, not for this forum! I get those assteroids every day, usually I see them when I am just passing blood, which is most of my bm's these days.

ByeBye UC: If this gets me out of the flare, I will continue to smoke. 3-5 cigarettes per day is nothing compared to the dangerous side effects of some of the RX meds we take for our condition.

and besides, you'll look way cooler smokin those ultra-pasturized organic free range virginia slims than you will poppin a handfull of ass acol

Mucus balls.....that's what they're called?!?!? I thought I was the only one but didn't know how to explain them!! Is it normal to get then even without a bm n just with straining n blood?!?!? Sorry to piggy back in ur post :(

I'll bet you are healing!  After flaring for a year and a half I picked up smoking again and within 10 days I was in about 95% remission.

My doctor, who is an otherwise extremely professional person, got mad at me for experimenting with cigarettes. Then he goes on to talk about steroids, immune-suppression and organ removal. Oh the irony. lol turn

Cherr:  IDK if they are really called mucus balls (assteroids) but I was desperate for finding out what these weird things were coming out of my hind-end.  ALIENS?  Anyway, when I notice them they are alone, and I see them a few days before the flare really hits me.

They actually look more like clusters of granola I have bought as a snack...eeeewwwwww.

Good. I hope all doctors can be this accepting one day. :) Adult patients taking up a tobacco habit should be a sign that the current treatments aren’t good enough, not that patients are crazy.

geeker....hahah thats what i always think too....looks like water logged granola, gross lol. im happy im not the only one tho and i can bring the term "mucus ball" or "assteroids" to my doctors appointment next week lol ;)
