If I'm not mistaken this is found in beef, pork and other meat sources. That would be preferred over supplementation.
I eat New Zealand Grass Fed Beef and it's wonderful. Leaves me feeling satiated.

I take a fair amount of l-carnitine daily. I don't know how it differs from propionyl-L-carnitine.

Did you read the paper? I wonder how they managed to publish.
First, they do not discuss, why this specific form? Why not use plain L-Carnitine (because it has more bioavailability than acetyl or propionyl form)? If propinoyl form is what they like, what is wrong with other 2 forms?
They state that serum levels of propionyl form is lower in UC patients because of possibly sequestration, then what about
acetyl form?
The subjects showed mild histological inflammation when biopsies were tested. And they call this minor protocol violation, then what on the earth they were treating?
The statistics is rather lousy.
When we are in remission, we can have mild inflammation and then they conclude that it is effective, ***? It may very well be useful but I will not take this paper as a reference for this argument.
And the authors are employees of some pharma company, does not sit well with me.

I didn't read it. I use lcarnitine for mito support, that's all that really interests me in its regard.
