I was originally diagnosed after taking Naproxen and Tramacet for 2 months for sciatica.  Could these medications make that kind of damage to my guts when a colonoscopy 2 months before beginning them showed a perfectly healthy colon?

uh, so you had a scope done prior to being dx'd ? what was that for ? am i cornfused ?

NSAIDs are implicated in triggering inflammatory bowel disease, so yes, Naproxen is an NSAID, and could have caused the damage to your bowel or triggered your UC.

so then how old are you spike ?

you may or may not know that a scope can sometimes send a person into a flair, at least someone with uc - that's why i'm curious as to the initial scope -

Yes, I can't take NSAIDs. My pain reliever is now ibuprofen. It's frustrating, because sometimes an anti-inflammatory is really needed. My primary care physician did give me a prescription for Lodine, which is an NSAID that has fewer gastric side effects. I take it very cautiously and only if absolutely necessary.

janey, not sure if you mistyped but ibuprofen IS a NSAID.

Yeah, I always do that. I mean acetaminophen. LOL Good thing my head is screwed on tight, otherwise I'd leave it someplace.
