well, most of you know that I've been struggling with my UC since diagnosis in 2011. my blood work has consistently sucked but it started improving last year when I ditched veganism and started paleo. I've had 19 iron infusions so far and 5 blood transfusions. my hemoglobin and iron have been the biggest pain to get normal and because I've had c diff since January, I figured I was basically screwed.
Tuesday last week, I had an appointment with my doctor and he wants to keep me on vancomycin and add Imuran. he ordered a ton of blood tests for me to get done just to see how i was looking before we changed anything. the last 3 times I've had blood work, the next day- without failure- I get an emergency call from my doctor telling me to get to the ER immediately for blood transfusions and iron.
i got my bloodwork done on Thursday and didn't sleep at all that night. i was waiting for the Friday morning call telling me that i'm dying yada yada and it NEVER came. i figured i wouldn't get away with it that easy since that's just not how my life goes.
today comes and i thought maybe the doctor wanted to let me relax over the weekend and he'd call me with bad news today. well, the opposite happened!!! he didn't call at all!! that is ALWAYS a good sign. my blood work was posted on the hospital website and it's freaking awesome!!!!
my hemoglobin is 11.1 and it hasn't been that high in a while. the last time i had a transfusion, it was at 6.5. my iron is normal, too at 49!!!!!! sed rate is freaking 1!!!!! That's right!! 1!!! normal is 1-20 and it's never in the normal range.
anyway, just wanted to share the good news with all of you. i immediately started crying tears of relief and joy since i don't have to worry about bleeding to death at the moment. i'm going on vacation next month for the first time since being diagnosed and i couldn't be more excited.
