Weird Q: Can teeth whitening products cause trouble for UCers?

I'd like to whiten my teeth...do you think I need to be wary of the chemicals in the treatment? 

Mostly hydrogen peroxide...

With all of the advancements in "cosmetic" medicine, you'd think someone would have come up with a paint-on UV-cured veneer by now.

I used strips a month ago and I didn't have any problems.

i used a hydrogen peroxide gel that you put in a mouthguard type thing, made a huge effort not to swallow any ( on the box it said do not use if you have colitis)

about 2 weeks later i had the worst flare of my life that almost killed me, couldve been a coincidence but safe to say im not risking it again lol

I get mine done and never had any trouble. I don't do it at home though so perhaps its different

I use the 5 minute whitening gel. You just put a small amount on a swab and rub it on your teeth, wait 5 mins then brush. I've never had any issues. I think the trays are harder because of the saliva build up. You can end up swallowing some.

Haha my teeth are as yellow as can be due to my years of tea drinking and I could care less (also I have a few fillings up front that were tinted the same color as my teeth so any whitening treatment would make those fillings much more obvious). My only issue with these teeth whitening products is you need to continuously use them for the whitening to stay so therefore it can get expensive. I think most dentists offices offer a more elaborate treatment in-office that bleaches your teeth; might work better and last longer. Anybody try that one?

My dentist offers that but it's $450 for the initial treatment but they send you home with trays. To me, that's not worth it especially since the 5 min bleach I use only costs $10 and it works well and safely. I only do mine about once a month, mainly because I'm a coffee drinker. However I use a tooth paste with a whitening agent daily.
