I think that ANYONE with UC should be doing rectal meds, because the oral meds aren't as effective at treating inflammation as the rectal meds. My first GI (and he'd still be my GI if he hadn't retired and I hadn't moved) said that it's a shame it'd be impossible to use an enema that was big enough to treat the entire colon, because UC would likely be easier to control that way.
There are many studies showing that using both oral and rectal meds results in faster response time, increased remission rates, and longer-term remission.
I am so annoyed! I called my doctor to see if he could call the rectal meds in for me and when I got a call back from his nurse today with a response saying that no it wouldn't be effective for me. My response of course is well what would?
