If you're constipated, Maybe you should drink more water? I know you're taking miralax but is it helping you?

yeah, the miralax does not seem to be getting the job done, and I am drinking lots of water now, although I was not drinking enough earlier in the week. It feels like nothing can get around what's in there now, which is why I used the mineral oil from the other end.
It's quite painful when I have bouts of urgency and nothing can pass, and everything is pretty sore. Maybe tomorrow.

I did just start the cort enemas in the last two weeks and I was partially blocked up. It seemed to loosen up a little last wee, but then really got blocked the last two days. I do also have rowasa, and I was planning to use them in the morning, but I can't pull it off with work and all the bowel movement I have in the morning, so the plan was to do the 2 weeks of cort and then switch to the rowasa. Should I alternate the rowasa and cort instead?

I did get some relief last night/this morning, not quite what I was hoping for, but some movement.

An hour is good, You could use the steroid enema at night and the Canasa during the day.

Once you start to see improvement, alternate the Rowasa with the steroid enema and still do the canasa during the day.

Try not to use tooooo much stool softeners, they'll also quicken the colon, so that as well might be why you can't hold the enema.

Quincy - mornings have been rough lately so that is why I haven't used the canasa in the day - and also I am so tender that I can't imagine putting it in right now. If I have a better morning tomorrow ill give it a shot. Today I came home early and used rowasa, and then I'll use the cort tonight. Good to know about the stool softeners, my first time trying that. I will lay off.

I was able to pass some bm today, very painful but got some relief. It's like a convulsion when it comes through.

Ledaebel- I do believe that is the case and the reason the miralax didn't help. Never thought about an ice pack, good idea. I did use a mineral oil enema last night, that helped a little I think.

Madcat, I have been smoking a few cigarettes ala geeker, and seems to calm things down during the day, but as you know, they can cause an accident if you're not careful - almost happened to me on Friday. Close call. Coffee I drink in the morning - sends me running to the loo, but doesn't loosen things up at this point.

PK, I have a couple more mineral oil enemas, I'll use another this evening.

I got some relief this morning! The old rectum loosened up just enough to let out the mud. Painful still, but with movement at least. I'll take it. It looks like the double enema yesterday - rowasa in the evening and cort at bedtime - made some progress. I'll see if I can hold a canasa this morning. Progress!!

I did take your advice and stopped taking the stool softener (and the miralax). As you suggested, the stool softener did make it harder to retain - and not just the enemas unfortunately. I had a minor accident both yesterday and the day before, but luckily I was home both times. So, a big thank you for that warning! Seems like things are headed in the right direction now, slowly, but the right way.

I guess the only upside to the constipation is that the accidents are "just" mucous and blood since nothing else is getting through without major labor. But urgency is down and I do seem to be able to fend off those bouts a bit better than in days past. Still all blocked up, though I am hopeful that will loosen up if I stay the course with the rectals.
I stopped taking psyllium last week when things got really bad, I'm not sure it's a good idea with the C. I am eating as little as possible really, scares me to put too much food in my system with the blockage.

Gonk...so, little going in means little going out...so try to eat as NORMALLY as possible.

Don't do tons of prunes, stuff to make you go...your rectum is saying "i'm in trouble here...get me healed".

I'd add the fibre back to your diet...but what are you taking?
Take it with your meals.

Maybe up the vitamin C a bit...but if you don't normally have prunes or other stuff...you'll just end up with more gas.

I'm basing all this on my experiences....stick with the rectals and stop worrying so much about this part...your rectum is really inflamed. What's coming out is normal for an inflamed rectum...you're flaring.

Do you have any dicyclomine or other antispasmodic? That will also help the spasming and even the peristalsis.
