Remission with SCD

I agree! While im not in remission, it has helped me get overall healthier and gain weight. Im now 101 lbs and started at 84 lbs.

I stick to cooking all my veggies and i dont eat the peels. I also stay away from cruciferous and green leafy veggies.

Thank you for your post. I remember we started SCD almost at the same time but I gave up because I was still bleeding. Sometimes I still think about doing the diet.

I still keep a food journal and as soon as I notice some food upset me, I write it down. Last time I ate rice it really gave me mucus :/ So I'm still on some sort of diet.

SCD hasn't helped me with the bleeding part but I noticed I was never as bloated.

mindoverbutter, did you take meds in combination to help with your flare? How long did it take you until bleeding subsided? What are your plans? Will you stay on SCD for another year and then slowly introduce illegal foods or just stay on it as long as possible?

In my months of being on SCD I have concluded that the SCD foods are the gut friendly foods, and SCD is the diet for sick intestines.

Yes I was put on prednisone day 1 of SCD. I needed medical intervention. I was also on mesalamine enema at the time. 3 months later I was off prednisone. However, each time tapering enema would result in bleeding.

Finally 17 months later I am fully off enemas with no return of bleeding. The only time I see blood is when I eat too many raw nuts. However, stool is formed, I go once a day, I barely have urgency, and I have a life... A very good one too!!!

SCD is a huge change in lifestyle... Not everyone can do it, it changes your outlook on many things, specifically you see how wrong you were eating before SCD, and maybe thats why u are sick to begin with.

Plans: SCD until my GI says I can stop taking my Lialda (Probably start tapering one year from now.) Once med free, Then a year after that try an illegal... Probably sweet potatoes or brown rice.

mindoverbutter, do you also still keep a food journal? I would advise you to do so. Especially when introducing new food.

Can you do nut butter instead of the hard nuts? I wouldn't risk bleeding.

Correct, still on max dose of oral mesalamine. Took me over a year to wean off mesalamine enema, but those are gone.

"Flares" over the course of being on SCD are hilarious. They are jokes. They take like a week max to recover. You make some broth, eat some almond cookies and like, back to normal. Oh right!!! What's an "scd-flare" like? 3x max, decent to perfect stool, some urgency maybe blood or not. But gone in like 7 days max, just maybe cut out the yogurt and get more rest.

This is just me, but there are many people like me all over who have done it and it works. It is hard, everyone is different, the diet is so healthy too.

In the beginning I had hard boiled eggs for breakfast, broth w no veggies for lunch with chicken, and then a plane piece of salmon for dinner. Then I added carrots with the soup. Then I added coconut oil to make scrambled eggs with salt. Then I added white grape juice and gelatin. Then I tried almond flour bread. Then I added grass fed hamburger. Then I added cooked spinach. Then I added riped mashed banana. Then I tried the SCD yogurt.

You gotta have patience in the beginning. A lot of bland stuff, but it gets easier because you will get to add more foods, it becomes routine, and best of all: you start to feel better.
