Just back from a vacation to Florida was there for 2 weeks. Anyway I am dark haired and tan fairly easily. I am tanned all year round and use sunbeds (not often maybe 1 time a month). Anyway in the sun I usually go very dark and take a good colour but I never really bother with any sun cream as haven't in the past and had no problems.

Anyway 1st week I was fine went dark no redness or peeling as per. Second week mid way thru I was in the sun a lot less due to more chill out days indoors etc and noticed my skin started to go "patchy" so imagine dark skin with white spots/patches. Not big but over the next 2 days it spread very fast, so my whole chest and left arm is covered in it as well as the top of my back and little bit on shoulders. There was no redness but you could see the skin falling off going a black like colour.

Im on 6mp 100mg, pentasa 4g and also anti biotics.... Any ideas? it's not really fixed since and it's been a week, fair play bit early but it looks weird as if I've been using fake tan and it's gone streaky and coming off. Maybe if I go for some sunbeds?

I don't think you're supposed to be in the sun when you're taking Imuran or 6mp. It says so on the bottle. It might not do anything for normal people, but something tells me you like to lay in the sun a long time.

You're going to pay BIGTIME for that vanity, especially with the meds you're on.
Please use some common sense regarding your tanning.
Not that you didn't know that anyway....seems you need to be aggressively nudged...make an appt with the dermatologist and get checked out thoroughly.

Just FYI...all the tanning I did in the '60s - '80s...I have the reminders today! they'll never leave you.   I also had basal skin cancer, albeit mild, on my face. 

Use tanning spray...much healthier.

I don't lie in the sun a lot though? Aside from that one vacation. I use one sunbed for around 6 minutes every 4-6 weeks. I use melanotan at the moment to keep up a good colour. This is the second time this has happened first time it was just a bit on my chest and neck but disapeared doctors said it was tinea versicolor (skin fungus).

I know the whole skin cancer with excess uv damage etc but I am not a sun worshiper at all though.

ah, well..why bother with the tanning bed?

the white spots might not go away...did the doc give you antifungal for them?

Because it helps keep the colour up. And yeah nizoral stuff has ketozol(Sp?) in it and it went away. It's faded slightly over the last two days not as obvious now. But just couldn't understand why all of a sudden that is all. I'll make an appt regardless and see if I can get more of it in that case.

Maybe you picked it up from the tanning bed...or do you share work-out equipment?...oops, just checked it out and it's not contagious.

It only started on the second week of vacation I hadn't used a tanning bed for around a month before that. I did use the gym on holiday though.

yeah, it says it's not contagious
but if it's been hot and sweaty...seems that's how it can start..

Probably the meds lowered the immunity as well.

I totally got a fungus issue from my supressed immunity a while back. Trust me it had nothing to do with the sun either!

Your meds make you more susceptible to fungus and other icky stuff. Also you really need to watch the sun on meds. What you were able to do in the past is now history. UC is a big game changer!

I got that splotchy color too while on 6mp. We went to Florida on the motorcycles a few years ago and I used sunscreen btw. It faded after a while tho. I'm not sure why it happens.

It's gone now just to update, just went away itself after a week completely and it's fine again, bizzare!
