Actually not that new study but I found it interesting. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2269703/
They don't mention the amount used in the study though (Unless I missed it, I checked it only twice, quickly)
I love Pineapples and eat them ALL the time and now may be I will consider 'supplementing' it.

This ingredient is one of the protease enzymes in the zymactive I took. Made me a lot worse and had to quit. Maybe the combo of enzymes was just too much for me.

i was a big pineapple eater but never noticed it helping my UC. maybe the supplement has huge quantities that you can't get in the food.

The amount of Bromelain in used in studies is probably more than one consumes in a serving of pineapple, though I can't seem to find how much bromelain enzyme one gets from eating a serving of fresh pineapple.

I have been taking bromelain with turmeric pills for a couple years. I still flared from ABX. I take about
a dozen things noted to reduce inflammation. The biggest factor for me is food selection. Next is all these supplements.

@guy,
Could you link your Bromelain brand here. I am curious the GDUs in your brand. Whats ABX? I wonder why you preferred Bromelain + turmeric over Bromelain+Quercetin.
I have observed that there are tons of things known to reduce inflammation but I guess the inflammation that we suffer is so much that just any supplement is not really enough to counter it. Food selection will ALWAYS trump over supplements. I have started eating more alkalinising stuff, just to check if that indeed makes any difference.

I just wanted to up this thread.
I would like to know from those who have tried Bromelain about
the dose (i.e. mg in the capsule + GDUs of that Bromelain). I got Vitamin Shoppe brand with 500mg in each capsule with 600 GDU and considering to take it for a couple of months to see if there is any change that I see.
Thanks in advance.

Hey delta. Did you try bromelain yet? I just started it and the capsules are 500 mg a day.

Yes, I started taking Vitamin Shoppe brand 500mg (600 GDU/gm). The strength of the preparation is rather weak. I take about
2X-3X/day, so far did not notice any difference.
Once this runs out, I plan to go for higher strength.

The reason you may find it helps is that it is a digestive enzyme.

some time ago there was a heated debate in the Polish press about
bromelaine (as it is a component of many slimming teas), it was said that bromelaine may cause serious liver damage
