Hi brothers and sisters. Im taking pred from last so many weeks and right now im at 20mg(started at 40). My bm's have been reduced to 6/day( previously 8-10) .but i think 6 is also not so good. I get 3-4 times motion in morning only upto 8am and then rest during d day..no abdomnal cramps so far. But yeah pred side effects and joint pain kills me sometime. Im a bit confused whether im recovering or not. Coz i dont want to consult doc without reason and add to my list of medicine.

I'm sorry to hear you are struggling. I can't give you advice about your current meds, but I do think you should try rectal mesalamine enemas. My improvement was the greatest wHen I stated both oral and rectal. I have had similar symptoms to you and I have been flaring for eleven months. (diagnosed for only the past five) I will say my improvement has been slow, but in the right direction. It wouldn't hurt to consult with your doctor and get his opinion on your progress.

Do you know what put you into remission the first time and do you know what caused your remission to end?

I was so young that time(16) and had little knowlege abt uc. But azathriopine, pentasa,budez put me into a kind of remission. But this time none of them seem to work. And doc prescribed pred. He even told if pred wont work i might have to consider remicade or surgery. Im on gluten free, diary free diet since 3 months. Improvement is so slow that i doubt whether im improving or not.

pred provide reversal of inflamation, but only while you take it. the idea is for one of the other meds to get a chance to work, and then to get off of pred.

you can remain pred dependent for a while, but you need to find a drug or combination of drugs and nutrition/supplement that works for you.
