substitute for Bentyl while breasteeding?

So after a symptom free pregnancy, I am starting to have awesome spastic bowel issues again (12 weeks post partum now). I knew this might happen, but still majorly bummed.
I am exclusively breasfeeding, and loving it. Problem is, I need Bentyl to function when I have a bad colon day. I go back to work soon, and I will especially need it then. Bentyl is not safe for breasfeeding. My questions are:
1. are there any other meds similar to bentyl that i can ask my GI about?
2. has anyone used bentyl while breasfeeding...if so, how long did you wait between taking it and nursing?

Neighbors mother told me she had UC and took dicyclomine ( bentyl ) it handled it for her for years and now she no longer has UC. I kept insisting it was IBS and she kept insisting her diagnosis was UC.

Elavil/amatriptyline? I don't see many people with uc on it, since it's more of an ibs med, but I use it to slow everything down a bit when I'm in a bad flare. I've been on it several months (only along with lots of other meds) and breastfed on it for at least a few months.

Thanks for commenting, I never heard of it. It is an anticholergenic used for UC and an anti-depressent.

Yes, it's main use is as an anti-depressant I believe. It doesn't actually do anything for my uc (as far as healing/reducing inflammation/getting out of a flare), but it supposedly slows down and helps with urgency, and according to my dr can be safely taken long term over 100mg. I always wonder why I never see anyone on these boards taking it.

Who says Dicyclomine is not when you are breastfeeding? DS was prescribed dicyclomine 'as and when needed' basis when he was 2 months or so. 12 weeks is 3 months. Did your ped tell you that?

 

Amitryptyline didn't do a thing for me. I was on Nortryptyline (amy*'s cousin), 20mg but no change whatsoever. May be higher doses can do something but I certainly won't mess around if I would be breastfeeding.
