After worrying and obsessing over the decision to take Remicaid, I had my first infusion on Friday 7/19/2013.

I took it at a Walgreen's infusion center (not very fancy but adequate) and decided to take Benadryl through my IV (they gave me the option to take a pill). I had no adverse reactions at all! I slept a lot that day, probly from the Benadryl, but the next day I felt fine.

Today I had the first truly "normal" BM in...well, it had been so long I can't remember the last normal BM I had. I feel good and stronger than I have in a long time--over a year.

I don't regret trying other things and postponing the Remicaid until I was sure it was time to try it. But hopefully my experience will help someone else who has to make the decision. I'm trying to get pregnant and I am very optimistic that I will conceive and have a healthy baby--I am very at-peace with my decision to start Remicaid.

That's awesome! Congrats I love hearing happy stories coz uc seems to be s negative lol....I'm newly diagnosed and yet to go on any Meds. Good luck on the pregnancy and the meds x

Misscass--welcome to the club! When I was newly diagnosed I joined my local CCFA support group (there were not many online communities back then). It helped to meet other ppl with different stages of UC. I came to realize how lucky I was to just take Asacol and only have occassional flares, since most of the ppl in my group were more ill than I was. Cherish the good times in between flares! Don't be afraid of meds but always do your homework and don't rely on docs to tell you all your options! Cheers :-)

Remicade worked great for me too, almost the same instant results and energy boost like you. Remicade worked for almost 5 years for me until I had to stop it late last year due to Anti-bodies causing serum sickness.

I am very thankful for Remicade and it gave me a great opportunity for those 5 years.... If I could have made some changes to towards the end I may have been able to continue using it, you can add IV steroids to the infusions and it may help prevent some Anti-bodies from forming which i did not do... I wonder if that would have helped me continue to use Remicade.

Good luck with your expecting pregnancy, I'd recommend finding a Obgyn who specializes in high risk pregnancies and a GI who specializes in pregnancies. From my limited understanding its important to stay in remission while pregnant.

ks1905--Thanks for the suggestions; I will definitely see a high-risk OB when the time comes. I really hope I can get 2-5yrs before I have to switch--by then hopefully there will be something better on the market. Good luck to you!

Plucky: me too! I passed the seven year mark in March, and still in remission. Hope you have the same good luck.
