This article makes me so angry at the drug companies...I wonder if that was the same author that wrote on here a couple of days/weeks ago asking if we would share our experiences with her/him.

Typical, it's all about profit.

I had heard they were pulling asacol from the market because of something in the coating but I naturally assumed that since they are not pulling asacol HD that it was made out of something different.

I currently take 3 X 800mg asacol HD tabs each day - can someone suggest an alternative?

Probably the best thing to do is to stop taking Asacol. Request something else, either Lialda or Apriso, sulfasalazine, colazal, pentasa, whatever. F Warner Chilcott and their greed.

When I run out of Asacol 400s (taking 6 a day), my doc is making me take 4 800s a day. He doesn't think they are bioequivalent in dosing.

I can share my experiences:
I was apprehensive to go on Asacol, the drug costs $900 a month of with my copay was $55, but my doc said it was the best drug for me after giving me some free samples. I then found out there was a supposed plastic in the med, after over 10 years stopped taking it, went into a really bad flare. When I finally got an appt. with my GI doc, he said "it sounds like a scam by the drug company because the patent is running out".
He went over all the other meds I could try then showed me a Delzacol tab, laughing at the irony of the same capsule within a capsule.
Now have started Delzacol, -still flaring.
Can we all agree that these greedy b a s t a r d s don't have our best interests at heart?

Nice article. I'm from the UK and we clearly have a very different prescription system because I pay £140 a year for as many drugs as I want and the National Health Service picks up the tab.

But how come the UK and Canada managed to get generic Asacol produced yet the US has failed. Is our regulatory system around drug licensing so different? I know our drugs have to pass an additional cost effectiveness hurdle, alongside standard efficacy and safety tests.
