Hi guys,
I just wanted to get some general opinions on NRT testing. I guess a brief rundown of what's been going on would be helpful? I started transdermal LDN about two months ago, and had been doing very well. I follow the SCD (nothing beyond Phase 3) very strictly - and have even eliminated all nuts, seeds and cheese from that. The only dairy I consume is homemade raw milk kefir, which I have taken for several years without issue. I was doing very well, when out of the blue - WHAM! Killer, bloody flare.
I'm working with two doctors - my traditional, western-philosophy GI and a more naturopathic D.O. (who prescribed the LDN for me). Neither one of them had anything of value to offer for this flare. The western GI offered me Uceris, prednisone or to go back on Remicade, the D.O. told me to scale back to Phase 1 of the SCD (which I did, after redoing 2 days of the Intro diet). It's been two weeks with absolutely no improvement whatsoever. I'm not expecting remission in 2 weeks, but a modicum of improvement would be encouraging.
Yesterday, I decided to visit a naturopath, thinking I might as well exhaust every possible avenue to get better. He did something called NRT (nutritional response testing) where I hold various things in my hand and he observes changes in my muscle tone and heart rate. I kept thinking, "This is so hokey. I am totally wasting our family's money on this." EXCEPT - that at the end of the test, he was able to identify two unique things I'm sensitive to that 1) aren't common, and 2) I had not told him I had sensitivities to. (Food coloring, natural flavoring - It took me years to isolate these things as being problematic for me).
I would ordinarily just write this type of testing off, but the fact that he identified these things makes me wonder if this might be a legitimate form of testing? He said he almost never has someone test positive as being sensitive to food coloring.
In any case, I'd love to hear from some fellow UC'ers who have experience with NRT. Did you find it to be accurate and helpful?
Thank you for reading this! :)
