And I have an appointment with my GI on Monday Morning (the 29'th). So I will have this fecal calprotectin test to see what or how my inflammation is. I can't wait to see his face when he realizes I've been off all meds for a solid six months now and with absolute minor symptoms. I still think it's crazy compared to how I was the last time I saw him....

I just hope it eventually works for others as well as it did for me. I got a feeling it might be an expensive treatment option though for those that can and do stick it out... but no meds... sooo...

Wait until monday. I have been on this treatment since April 19th. I am still on Humira (down from a shot a week to a shot every 2 weeks) Waiting to see what my results are to discontinue it totally. I am also on colazal (down from 9 to 6). I will probably always be on that. I was taking an enema every night. I don't do them at all anymore. I have good days and bad days, but my bad days are better than they used to be. My symptoms seem to be worse at certain times of the month, and that was verified on my last urine test. So, we are trying to figure that out.
My biggest complaint is that it is so expensive. If you want more info, you can e-mail me. I will post my scope results on Monday.........I am VERY nervous about it.....I hate the prep!!

Yesterday was my fifth week on the treatment. So far it has had no effect on my UC symptoms. Here’s what I’m taking -

8am

1 NeuroReplete
1 D5 - Mucuna

Noon

2 CysReplete

4pm

1 NeuroReplete
1 D5 - Mucuna
2 CysReplete

7pm

2 CysReplete

I’ll have a new test on Monday and probably a dosage change by the end of next week.

I have to say that I am slightly better too. There are some days that I visit the toilett only 3 times a day. On other days I am quite bad. But the good days seem to happen more regulary.
Anyway I don't want to do any final statement about the effect of the treatment on me before the day on that I will be able to spread my diet.
I am definitely more concentrated and that's why I could get very good results for my exams at the University:)
My plan is, if Stein will be able to find the right dosage for me, to try other supplements with the same dosage and see if it works. Cause the treatment is going to be very expensive for me (I assume that I need much more than 3 table spoons of tyrosine).

To establish the right dosage you definitely need the supplements and the urine tests from them

Hey guys, so I'm new to the forum and just read this whole thread. One thing that stands out is Mark you seem to be doing a holistic approach meaning not just the amino therapy but also strict diet and exercise. I'm very interested in this amino acid therapy though. I might try to add it in with what I'm already doing.

I've been seeing a holistic doc in my area for about 4 months now. He has me on a very strict diet and supplements. I'm feeling much better now, and I think I'm normal...it's been three years since this roller coaster started, so I'm not sure what's normal anymore.

My old GI had me on oral masalamine for a year which did nothing. I switched doctors and they put me on cort enemas, which helped within three days. I've been on them for about a year and want to taper off. My GI wants me to do one night Rowasa and alternate with cort enema for a month and then drop the cort enema (scary thought for me).

I've also lost about 30 pounds and don't want to lose anymore, so I'm buying cook books tailored towards my diet. You can check out Doug Kauffman's Eating your way to good health. It's a little stricter than SCD, but he also has some recipes in it to help out.

I do not get the AA solution. I consume lots of amino acids as do most people lifting weights.

The angle here is that I would need to reduce certain ones to get the right 'balance' ?

How successful has this approach been for people ?

Just got my scope results back. No inflammation at all. Just some recto-sigmoid scarring. Best scope I have ever had. When I am feeling better I will post last years vs. this years results. I can not fully say it is the AA therapy since I am still taking Humira shots every other week. Stayed tuned for more results and if I can scan in the pictures I will.

Hi Lemon, that's awesome
To check if its humira or the AA-therapy you would just need to stop the amino acids for one day and then if you feel that the symptoms are coming back, you will definitely know that its not humira but the amino acid therapy helping you.

I agree with Chroninator - but honestly I think you'd have to stop one or the other for a few weeks to really find out. It takes a while 4-8 weeks for Humira to get out of your system (I think). Maybe google it to find out how long. Then stop for say two weeks after that.

Or stop the amino acid therapy for say two weeks or more and see how your symptoms change.

Honestly, I hate to say it but I'm thinking stopping the AA is the way to go for a few weeks... See how this effects the amount of Humira you need to take to feel the same as you do now. Might be easier and safer UC Symptom wise this way.

If you notice an increase in the need for Humira shots or worsening of symptoms over the next few weeks you can always start back on the AA treatment at your current dose and see if things improve again... this will shed some light on things... and perhaps make you more comfortable with the costs associated with this treatment.



@ A guywith uc... yes specific amino acids because they are precursors to certain hormones. Much higher doses than you would get with say protein powders/supplements and such.. And yes it's to balance the hormones not the amino acids.. If you read through the thread or search Amino Acid Therapy on here you will find a link to the paper that explains it.

@J Delux..

I wouldn't say holistic in any way... haha... I have bad habits. I do try to eat healthy and exercise, but not over the top. I avoid wheat and such cause I react to it...

My intention is to be able to eat whatever the heck I want at some point though.. or get back to 100% normal again.. if it's ever possible with this treatment.

For sure it has positive effects on me though. 100% for sure at this point in time. Was a loooong way to get here though. And expensive.

I'm not sure.. I don't recall ever talking to any of them other than to say "may I please speak with Dr. Stein"... but perhaps. Receptionists everywhere have their on and off days I'm sure..

guys, I'd love to start this therapy on my own by just buying the supplements: could you let me know how many NeuroReplete, Cysplete, D5 Mucuna, Tyrosine Replete you take and at which time of the day (AM,Breakfast,Mid Morning,Lunch,Mid Afternoon,Dinner,Before Bed)

UPDATE:

Well - I'm almost 7 months no meds whatsoever... nothing... never had this in 10 years of dealing with this disease.

I still react to wheat and processed foods and the next day I can have minor blood and minor visible mucus after eating them. Cut the crap and eat healthy real food, no wheat etc and the blood and mucus go away within 24 hours and poop returns to generally normal.

Even when I eat wheat and processed foods it doesn't keep me from my day, nor does it increase urgency to the point where it effects me in any way. It just causes an increase in BM's with small, very minor blood and mucus present. Again, if I eat healthy this seems to go away.

Not sure what the heck else to say here...


@DanthaMan - Very cool.. I'm glad to see another person give this a shot. I'll be very interested in seeing how it works for you. Do remember, that things can get very rough at first on this.. tiredness, malaise, and so on... it's not easy at all to get through the first few weeks or months, but I think (or hope) you'll see some positive results if you stick through with it.


Anyone else have an update? Chroninator? brt? How are you hanging in? Any better results yet?

4 table spoons of tyrosine: no or maybe 1% change to better. He told me that there is a guy who needs ten table spoons of tyrosine. I hope that I can get a Discount if I need ten table spoons, I think it would be adequate.
Maybe if you take 3 table spoons Mark the rest of your symptoms will go away? Have you done additional Urine tests?

I'm just about to tomorrow or monday... I feel pretty darn good on this dose and really I can totally manage any bad symptoms with diet (eating healthy and things are almost perfect) so I have been putting it off just because I have been super busy with a new contract.

My goal would be to get rid of the last remaining food sensitivities if possible as you mention. Time will tell I guess after I take the next urine test and get my dosage change.

I really don't know what to think about this treatment still to be honest. It's made such a remarkable difference - but it doesn't seem to me that others have having the same strong positive effects.

Makes me wonder if it's just in my head! So placebo type effect...

Then again for me, seven months no meds is just absolutely unheard of... again I've never had this in 10 years.

It really bothers me to no end cause the bottom line is I REALLY want everyone to feel better or feel as I do now from this.... frustrating as all heck when I read no improvement or minor improvement from others.

Makes me wonder...

At the same time I know lemmon sees improvement.. so I'm very interested in seeing what happens with DanthaMan...

Now the only thing I'd like to do is find a way to test it somehow to make sure it's all the real thing, no filler etc. But they have a very, very good reputation as a company from other body builders. Anyone have an idea or know of a lab were it could be sent to just to be sure?? Seems a little over the top, but I really don't really trust the supplement world... Just as a precaution I guess.

Maybe I'll order some and give it a go.. see what happens. But I'd feel better knowing for sure, which is why at the very least I'll call them and ask directly.
