Does anyone know if Lialda(Mesalamine)causes weight gain?

I have been on Lialda and have gained over 40lbs, I have joint and bone pains...severe pains, and headaches. I thought I was just getting old until I saw all the posts below. I now have an apt with my doc next Friday. I literally look like I'm ready to give birth, am completely uncomfortable and stomach painfull if I try to suck it in. I've been skinny to thin my whole life....I'm 43 and in the 6 months went up 5 dress sizes. very depressing. I don't work out as much because my joints and bones hurt so bad that it hurts to work out. I don't eat a whole lot either. Thank you all, for the below posts. I thought I was just getting old...

I've never heard of Lialda doing that. Are you on prednisone? If so you can say, "Bingo".

Anyone out there thinking of a class action law suit? I talked to people at my work today after reading this forum, and that is what everyone asked me. ????

No the only thing I am on is Lialda. It all started about a month after I started taking it and has just gotten worse and worse...until reading this thread...thought I was just getting old or something...really so depressed, I didn't really know what to think...

Oh ya, my chrons is so bad that I've been instructed to take 2-4 pills a day depending on how I'm doing. when having an episode I'm to take 4 a day, then try to taper down to 1-2. i only get away with 1-2 for a few days and I'm back to 4 a day in the morning before work. After reading all this, today I stopped my meds and will not resume anything until my apt next Friday the 25th.

I have been taking lialda for almost 3 months now and it controlled my colitis and put me back in remission which I'am very thankful for but I have been experiencing some side effects and wondering since now I'm feeling better if I should stop taking the drug. Which I only take 2 pills a day. I have gained 11 pounds, I try to watch my diet although I can't eat my vegetables like I use to. I exercise and go the gym and also have a trainer and have not seen a weight drop yet. I have always been a fairly athletic and fit person all my life. Also I have been experiencing some acne, dry skin - mostly in my face. And I feel weak and tired but then find myself having some insomnia. Also the flatuants has been way up and the bloating. I have spoke to my doctor about if lialda could cause weight gain and he said no but I'm not so sure. I've alway weighed around 121-124 my whole life and now all of a sudden I'm fighting not to go above 134! Any suggestions?

I also have been experiencing a few extra headaches and a little blurred vision, actually thought my eyes just needed glasses but they don't seem to help me so now I understand where it's coming from. I hate the constant bloat and gas. Waiting to take a check up colonoscopy in a couple weeks then if everything seems to be going ok cutting myself back to 1 pill a day to see how it goes and if all good none at all. I'm scared to stop because it did cute me seems like almost over night but this weight gain is out of control.

I think those symptoms are unrelated to the medications you are taking.

I have been on lialda for about 9 months and have gained 10 pounds. I do crossfit 4 times a week and eat well

Have been on Lialda about 5 months now and in remission. I take 2 in the morning....no weight gain or joint pain but had a kidney stone back in June! Also my urine was really yellow when i first started to taking it. i drink alot of water.
