It's 2:00 and I haven't pooped!

I had my first Remicade infusion yesterday, and I am shocked that it is 2 pm and I have not pooped ONCE today! This is amazing. Is it strange that I kind of want to poop to see if it's going to be "normal" lol??

I am dealing with a rash though. They did not premedicate me before the infusion, and half way through I got itchy, so she gave me a shot of Benedryl. It helped, but about 5 hours later it came back worse, with a rash. It seems to be limited to my chest area. Itchy red bumps. I have been taking Benedryl, which gives temporary relief. This morning I applied a steroid cream that I use for eczema, and it has caused it to fade a good bit, but my skin still feels so sensitive in that area. Almost like it slightly burns or I'm just 'aware' of that area. Anyone else have anything similar? If so did it last long? I'm going to take a Zyrtec and see if it improves. Thanks all!

Zyrtec should help! It's very unusual that they didn't give you a pre-med. I would ask for it with all future infusions, or just pop a Benadryl yourself.

Awesome news on the BM front, hope the trend continues (well, not ZERO forever... you know what I mean...)

Thank you Liz. Yes, I thought it was odd that they didn't too, but she did say she would be sure to premedicate me next time. I think I am going to stay on the Zyrtec until my next infusion. Hopefully that will help curb any reactions as well.

Going about once an hour I had my first remi infusion. Didn't go the whole day after it. Pretty crazy. Happens :). Means its working though.

Congrats; lets hope it is the start of a trend and Remi works for you. Isn't a thing of wonder to go once a day, or to even skip a day? Haha it hasn't happened since Dec for me, but I spent the whole day worrying about when I was going to go, I didn't even have time to appreciate it. When the unexpected happens you are just left in awe/disbelief :-)

@Madcat.... when you finally went, was it back to normal the first time, or was it sort of a process??

@iPoop, I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes I think this UC has made me psychotic when it comes to poop! When I am running to the bathroom, I worry, because obviously there is a problem, but then when I go for a while without going, I wonder what's wrong now! ha! I seriously have forgotten what it is like to be normal. This is the first real relief I have had in over a year. Fingers crossed.

I don't wait for them. I take Tylenol and Zyrtec at home, Zyrtec the night before. It's cheaper than what medical facilities charge, and it has time to take effect before I get there. And Zyrtec doesn't make me sleepy like Benadryl.

yep I had the exact same experience after my first remicade infusion. i saw immediate results.

been looking at adopting a rescue pup, was going to name it Remi... sadly my latest infusion hasn't been as good but we're pushing up my next infusion + new meds and I am trying to remain optimistic it will work again!

Hey I haven't gotten the rash and I would insist next time that you get pre medicated.

I just want to tell you how happy I am that you're reacting well colitis wise and I wish you a long remission!

oh and the infusion center i go to never gave me benedryl but they always give me tylenol prior to my infusion...

Wow, this makes me even more excited. You've have such quick results! I'm currently on a 40mg taper but haven't left 40mg yet, still having very watery stool. Anyways, I went to my GI today and plan to start remicade in the next couple of weeks as long as I can taper down a but. I'm excited. Good luck!

It definitely means it is working. Be aware that your stool will not be completely back to normal when you go next. Do not let it get you down though. It will change. Also be aware that if you have future flare ups then the Remicade may take longer to kick in. Nowadays it is normally a day or so until I see really pleasing improvement. Until then I am always waiting in terrified anticipation as the surgeons swarm...
