Bug or flare?

How do u guys tell the difference between whether or not it's a flare, bug or something that you ate? I don't have blood right now, but I do have diareah cramps without the diarrea and it's lasting like this for a week now! I'm on mesalamine and probiotics and on a bland diet but no change! I did have D a few days ago but needed to take an Imodium for some relieve but haven't gone in almost 48 hours! Ugh

How often are you going...before the imodium?

is the mesalamine oral or both oral and rectal?

If you're unsure, ask your doc to do stool samples...but if you're just on oral 5ASA meds, that might not be enough.

Is it for sure diarrhea or loose stool?

explain what your bland diet is at this time.

I know this may sound weird but I can tell the difference because of the smell. Normally when I'm in remission and I have D it smells one way and when I start to flare it smells a bit different (certainly more foul). Like I said I know it's weird but when I smell it my heart drops and I know I'm F'd

Doc says blood = inflammation.

If I have a bug it seems to resolve in a day or two. Food related usually happens later that same day or the next and then goes away.

If your not on rectal meds I would get some. Alternating D and Constipation can be symptoms of a flare.

I'm on oral and rectal, and only took one Imodium on Saturday. The bland diet is mostly, white rice, chicken breast, white bread, bananas, etc...(gluten doesn't bother me)
Going for a stool test isn't as easy to do here, not like it is in the US or Canada, (I'm in Mexico)
But good news, I've been up for about 20 minutes, and I went to the bathroom and had a mostly formed BM! No blood! Phew! Now I hope these cramps don't continue!
I still don't know whether or not it was a bug, food related or symptoms of a flare. But I'm just happy I went without blood! :)
