Mama,
I think you're doing the wise thing: consulting with a surgeon, and a holistic doctor.
IMO, lifestyle changes can make quite an important impact on symptoms - they cut the severity of my symptoms (except for the heavy bleeding) by
75% i.e. cramping, number of BM, pain, etc....
And then LDN took care of the rest.
By lifestyle change I mean:
1) diet modification as in gluten and dairy free, PALEO is my diet
2) eating anti-inflammatory foods
3) ensuring high levels of vitamin d3, mine are in the high 60's
4) adding slippery elm powder to coat the intestinal tract
5) adding l-glutamine amino acid powder for long term colonic repair
6) probiotics are KEY
7) adding some omega 3 product such as cod liver oil or krill oil
8) finding a way to handle stress
If any of this interests you, there are things IMO that you can control, which will have a direct impact on
your disease, the symptoms you experience and their severity.
I was able to control my UC into remission through various
supplements, probiotics, diet modification, and LDN , low dose
naltrexone.
For more info on the protocol which has put me into remission,

I hope you feel better and let us know how we can help
you.
