I wanna know when mine will also? Do you have a time frame for me, I'd like to prepare and schedule accordingly.

I wonder if a colonoscopy prep would help clear you up and get you back to "normal". Hang in there.

Late to this thread. I was so hoping there would be a happy ending by the time I got to the latest post, like with bananagirl, but I am sad to read you are still in the hospital. There is still hope of course. Wishing you all the best. Please know all of us here are thinking of you. Keep us updated whenever you feel up to it.

My husband just reminded me of two other things that helped in little ways. A heating pad on both the front and back helped the pain a little. I was allowed to sip white grape juice to help clear a partial blockage.

thinking about you!! I hope things have an incredible turn around quickly. Have you considering an antianxiety med? Sometimes these can help with UC symptoms. Did they check for c diff or other infection?

NO colonoscopy prep. NO. That would put her in more danger.

Are you ready for possibly having the surgery, Beat? Because right now you might be heading down that road and I don't know if you're up to that. Has the doctor mentioned any higher up medications yet?

Morphine would probably be better, I don't think anything else will touch that pain.

There isn't more I can offer you right now, except to hang in there. You've got this far. You're a fighter.

morphine probably won't be enough for this kind of pain. definitely go with dilaudid. it's like the king of painkillers and is WAY stronger than morphine. it really helped me when I was in the ER. I couldn't believe how terrible I had been feeling- just so much pressure in my abdomen. dilaudid definitely burned my head/mouth for about 20 seconds, but it was worth it. I felt like I was walking on the moon... which did make it hard to get to the bathroom!! i was beyond dizzy so luckily i had a toilet like one foot from my bed.

i hope you have found some relief by now. not sure what your doctor's plans are. in the end, it's your decision. i figure if you have impacted poop, even doing colon removal surgery would be dangerous since the poop contents could leak into your abdominal cavity and cause infection. i hope you can get it out- some laxative (magnesium is usually helpful) would probably be best but i doubt they use stuff like that in hospitals. they only have industrial length everything.

Different people respond differently to pain killers. I should have expressed that earlier. Dilaudid did not work on me when my colon fell apart. The maximum dose of morphine was more effective for me than the maximum dose of dilaudid. The pain BeatUC is going through is truly horrible. I remember very clearly thinking "It's ok if I die, at least the pain will stop."

BeatUC, how are you feeling today? Hope you got out of pain.
If you are still struggling with the impaction, you can try using a cotton cloth soaked in the clay water/milk on your stomach/the affected area. It will give a relief.
I heard this from a yoga teacher.

I'm so sorry to hear how much pain you are in. When I was hospitalized, morphine barely touched my pain and I thought I was dying. The pain was excruciating! So my heartfelt sympathies are with you. I know all the well wishes in the world mean nothing right now but I really do hope you feel better soon.

Thanks, today I just may be feeling bit better. I hate pain meds, but am accepting the anti-anxiety stuff.
I have a long road ahead of me, just thinking how long it will take to get off this pred.
I appreciate all your thoughts and advice, I've found that it's best to try to calm my mind and let go of all the fear, it's an exercise in control, not letting the reality take me down.

Keep on improving, morphine will slow motility,or even stop it.
If you can, walk as much as possible to get things going.

I was shocked today to find out I tested positive for C-diff!
This makes my situation even more dire, but at least they are starting the flagyl today.
Have any of you had c-diff and a flare happening at the same time?
Please let me know of your experiences.

Sorry to hear this has dragged on so badly, but glad to hear a little bit of improvement. As Old Mike pointed out, narcotic meds can be a very two edged sword as they can slow or even paralyze the gut. Also, pred puffs up all tissues including gut tissue... so it could temporarily block things up a bit too- however, the fact that you are starting to feel a bit less pain sounds to me as if pred is building momentum- a good sign. Hang in there.

The c.diff diagnosis seems long in coming...but it's good that they checked!!!!

Seems this crisis will find resolve if that's dealt with...the inflammation healing should go down once the flagyl kicks in.

haha q you're a sweetie -thanks. I've been using Rowasa all along to no avail, what seemed strange all along is how high up the bleeding was coming from>
I just hope the c diff is not one of those cases that relapses over and over. No idea how I could have been exposed to c diff other than restaurants.

no, you've been exposed to the C diff in hospital. I caught something in the early states of my hospital visists that cleared now.

There's diseases in the hospital floating around all the time.
