Does anyone hate automatic flush toilets as much as I do?

Jeeeeeeeeeeesh. Went out today. Used a public restroom with autoflush toilets. Done that before. Hate it because every time I move the toilet flushes! I've had times sitting there while the toilet flushes three times! On top of that, when you maneuver to begin wiping procedure the toilet flushes again, before wiping! How Stupid is that? I bet this even happens to non UC'rs too. What a waste of water and then sometimes it doesn't even flush the last time after you have wiped, so what's the point? Some idiot came up with this idea which sounded good on paper but not in reality, or am I just crazy?

We have them at work. They're OK there, rarely any extra flushes. Some of them are way too sensitive though... Ugh.

Hahaha... been there. to funny. It is such a bad idea though cause of all the accidental triggering. The sanitation aspect is probably good via not touching the handle thought, but still.

I think the best would be like back in the old days at school, when you pressed down on the bar with your foot to wash your hands. Something like that would be 100% more water efficient if it times the water for only a short period, but adapted for a toilet perhaps.... I don't know.

well I would prefer more flushing, not less - it's bad enough having to endure the industrial strength puke inducing smells ...... and then walking in to SEE what is causing all that stink - I vote for continually flushing toilets - warren buffet needs the money -

I hate them when there's a line for the stall I'm using. If a person hears it flush, they think you're done. Then you hear shuffling of feet, coughing, because they want to make themselves known I guess. It all adds up to added stress for me!

Ahhhh! I was just thinking the same thing today! Not only are some of the toilets at work automatic, but so are the lights. So if I'm just sitting there, minding my own business and waiting for it to pass, and I lean slightly forward, WHOOOOOSH goes the toilet. And if I don't do any leaning or moving whatsoever, the lights turn off! Nothing like having someone walk in a few minutes later to a dark bathroom and then finding me sitting there alone in the dark.

I HATE THEM TOO!!! Nothing worse than a butt shower with toilet water....just leaning to wipe sets them off, ugh!

I've never heard of lights and toilets connected...wth? You could put in a complaint at work, it's extremely inconsiderate to have the lights turn off because you're not moving on the toilet.

Had them in most washrooms at my college. I would purposely walk across campus just to find an old toilet.

And I have a thing about public bathrooms. This doesn't help it.

I don't mind them. I'm just inspecting my poop a lot of times and then it gets annoying because it's flushed away lol

I love the automatic sinks, soap, and paper towel dispensers because I'm a germ freak, but HATE the toilets

I hate the automatic toilets that flush when you're still on them but also the ones that spray back because their too powerful.

I have problems with them because of my bag. When out and about, I stand to empty my bag rather than sit. After I empty I have to sit down anyway just to get it to flush!

I've had the lights go off on me as well. I think there is a motion detector in the main area and if it doesn't detect any movement for a certain amount of time - poof, off go the lights. I don't think it's connected to the toilets and it can't detect any motion inside a stall.

I don't like it becuase toilets splash and I don't want toilet water on my butt. It's kind of nasty to flush without putting the top down. I know public toilets tend to not have a lid - at home I always close the lid. At work i jump back because of the splashing, i don't want it on my shoes. I imagine the floors are covered in germ particles.

When I go into a public restroom with my kids, they often won't "go" if there are automatic toilets, it just freaks them out too much. So we drape a little cloth or a sticky note or something over the sensor, and it won't flush until you uncover it again.

I was in an airport recently and there was one toilet that just kept flushing, wouldn't stop. Total waste of water, indeed.

I'm particular about any toilet water, and my own peeing can cause it to splash up, which is a pain unto itself. A toilet should flush AFTER one is off the toilet...meaning delayed. Not while still on.

As far as logs left in the toilet....many people are just nasty, piss on the seats, flush with their feet and never wash their hands. That's probably worse than a butt wash.

Oh, forgot to add...what's worse is the toilets that flush only once and don't have a button or lever to flush again. So....in order for it to flush again, one has to sit down AGAIN...so the toilet paper I've used to wipe my newly splashed cheeks, as well as the paper around the seat...cannot get flushed.

sigh....

The lights thing...I get it now..lol. d'uh. Still stupid.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one. The responses have made me think about other reasons I hate the autoflush. One of those times the lights went out on me I was in pitch black darkness. I was in the middle of doing my thing and literally couldn't see my own hand in front of my face. The only way to get the lights back on would have been to leave the stall and move around. Decided to just play blind person and wing it. Also I remember a time like Heather says. Toilets that only flush once. Flushed immediately when I was done but then had to wipe and would not flush again. Usually they have a button or you can wave at the sensor but there was a time or two where I just had to leave the toilet paper in the toilet and walk away because it wouldn't flush again.

Hard to accept this is all to make our lives easier...bwahahahaaaaaaaaaa. Idiots who make those decisions, probably based on $$ to not spring for the extras.

But I sure do like bathrooms that have automatic entry door, separate/private cubicles that I can at least not have to contort or wipe my body on any part of the stall as I go in or out.

And what's with the toilet paper that's well...tissue thin?? Or the kind that scrunches and won't unscrunch?

And why would some places have a Kleenex box on a shelf behind the toilet? and to think some people actually use those. Or a handy towel above the toilet..ugh.

The irony is, I think they designed those automatic flush toilets for germaphobes to begin with, but they should know that any germaphobe isn't going to appreciate germs being splashed up on their butts while on the toilet lol!

I've never come across an automatic flush that doesn't have a flush button on it, that's weird some of you have...

I think it's usually kids that leave their logs behind in public restrooms...their parents probably tell them not to touch the flusher so they leave their poops and all for everyone to see...maybe they should just teach their kids to flush and wash. Or maybe it's proud IBDers that are in remission leaving their logs for all to see hahahaha!
