Hi Virgogirl, I am woo fan as well (see my posts if you like).
Does your husband follow a diet that works for the UC ?
Just my take on GI 's and normal doctors, dont expect them go along w/ woo or any of the methods people use on this site. Doctors method is pharm., knife & cancer screening, it's up to you to learn about
the other half.
We need doctors but they are not gods.
Maybe you already know about
the "other half" . Woo is one of many ways to help him.
Remember all those pharm drugs have lots of side effects.
What specific new drugs did the doctor refer to ?
Also, one does not normally need to tell GI about
natural methods (most are not drugs and don't concern him/her). Help yourself on a diff. front...
As you know, you can get tons of help in here.
PS, blood pressure is an easy test

Your husband has had UC a long time.

My husband has had UC from the age of 30. He has been through a lot! Several years ago he almost lost his colon so we had to rush to Cleveland Clinic to get everything under control.
He is now 49. He is having a flare up even on his 3 meds; Lialda, proto-foam, and Canasa. He also takes a probiotic daily. So he had a lower GI which showed chronic inflammation to the first section of his colon.
His doctor is saying now it is time for the anti-rejection drugs that are so harsh. After reading on here about WOO I went to the health food store and purchased Gaia Oil of Oregano capsules. It does have carvacrol and thymol. He said he has noticed a difference. My concern after researching the oil is that it is not intended for long term use and may have an negative impact on blood pressure.
Have you read anything about the side affects of long time use? I know is doctor will not like the natural approach, but he dreads the more harsh treatment on the horizon.....
I've used this site for years for my own GI issues (reflux, had surgery for it), and acquired Anxiety/panic several years ago. What a wonderful, and invaluable site this is! Thanks everyone.... a concerned wife
