What is the average number of biopsies taken during a colonoscopy? My doc says he'll take 40 and that seems like a lot to me.

I honestly don't know. My Gi says he takes biopsies every inch or two....so if the colon is about
7ft long...(I'm a bit metrically challenged lol) but 40 seems about
right.

My regular Gastro takes 5, but I just saw a specialist in Boston at BWH and they take 30. He said its easy to miss something if you take so few.

I have 30 - 36 done depending on what my GI decides. Since this will be the last one with him (he's retiring), he might do more.
