I posted it on another thread, but after battling the most stubborn "flare" of my life, it ended up being Camplyobacter. I just got out of the hospital yesterday (dehydration, one-night stay), and I have a colonoscopy scheduled with a new GI on Monday afternoon. I'm not sure if I want to get this over with, or reschedule...which I can't really call them since it's the weekend...I hope the prep does not set me back. I want to feel better and stronger before going through with it, but I also want to be cooperative with my doctor since he's been so patient and persistent in finding what was wrong with me...I feel like many doctors would have said it's just UC and let it linger on. I do feel like it's important to just focus on getting rid of this bug right now.
This has been a great lesson for me, to rule out any type of bacterial infections/food poisonings in the future!! I could NOT figure out why it would get better and then come back with a vengeance in one night.

14 years ago...so what's another week, right? I wish I could call and talk to the GI. I haven't built trust in him like I have the new internal med doctor. I will see how I feel I guess...sorry to be complaining and whiny, it's just been a rough week!

Yes, I have been able to control it well, although I know I need one. I think I have decided to postpone this one, because I don't want to put my body through dehydration again. They didn't schedule it until 1:30 p.m. on Monday and the prep instructs me to not drink anything all day that day. I was in the hospital for dehydration, and it's just so nice to see plump veins on the back of my hands again today. I hate to cancel especially since I cannot let them know over the weekend.

wise choice imo -
and if it was (or is it were - I never know) me, I would seriously question the need for it at all - as you already know, it's not a risk free looky see -

thank you, I just want to get healthier and stronger..I have a huge bruise on my arm from last week's IV reminding me of how slow I am to heal now after taking steroids in the hospital and tapering a small dose now. I want the antibiotic to be able to do it's job and get rid of this bacteria.

You do for sure need another c-scope soon. tough to have it on a Monday when you've been in gastro crisis with a newly diagnoses campylobacter infection and now you're on meds. Hope they understand if you decide to postpone it.
I do think it's better to wait at least a few weeks to a month before getting a scope so that there's a better baseline of what's going on without having any inflammation from the infection.
Feel better soon.

Thank you Heather. I chose this new GI due to convenience and the urgency to get well...the diagnosis of the Camp. changes everything for me in my reasoning to get a c-scope.
I definitely want one, but now I will be searching for a good new GI.
I went to an all-natural homeopathic doctor (not GI) at the beginning of this....on the complete opposite side of the spectrum is the GI who was going to do this procedure--all meds. I want a GI who is in the MIDDLE of these two, much like the DC doctor who was discussed recently on here.
I will do research this week and hope my internal med doctor is not too mad at me for being a no-show tomorrow. I will call the new GI's office in the morning to cancel...I have other reasons too for wanting to cancel, such as an unclean office, sloppily-dressed staff (flip flops, etc), bad reports from friends.

Are there no other doctors in your area? I have to drive 2 hours to the closest GI doctor but luckily the facility is really nice. Good luck.

Yes, I'm calling an office tomorrow that has 10 GI's to see if I can get any info. It's a little over an hour away. The Camplyobacter just had me so desperate to get help quick because I couldn't stay hydrated. My nurse practitioner who has been my "rock" for most of the course of my UC passed away a little over a week ago while I was in the hospital. Thank you

By the way, how do you cope with getting the c-scopes done so far away? I'm almost thinking hotel room the night before.
