What causes urgency?

I got to a point where it always seemed like I was about to explode even when I had an empty colon (tenesmus) and it was hell... Some days it was just going back and forth to the bathroom, back and forth, back and forth... So I guess I would say that 'urgency' is part of the illness although I realize that isn't helpful.

So mad, just typed a nice response to be told by the site that my username and or password were incorrect.... which they weren't. Basically: I feel urgency is my system, as a while, saying "get this crap the HECK out of me". No necessarily because there's inflammation near a certain area, but due to the fact that your system is well aware that there's an irritant (your food) inside and that it has the ability to remove it (pooping). I find mornings hold the most urgency for me. I think it's probably because gravity switches when I stand, leading to a large BM now wanting out... And my urgency definitely decreases throughout the day. Anyone else know why this may be? I could eat like a pig, and never get the urgency that I'll have in the morning (not necessarily the following morning. Just any morning).

Bobpuvel, a lot of people have their suspicions about why morning urgencies are generally the worst, fact is, it's also just the nature of the beast with IBD...it could have to do with the fact that more stool has accumulated while sleeping for hours (not going to the toilet for hours due to being asleep) but I assure you, it's not the gravity because while I'm still laying it bed I feel the urgency and that's what gets me out of bed every morning before even standing up (gravity).

Also, I've had nocturnal poops many times where only small amounts come out...I'm in bed fast asleep and get abruptly woken up in the middle of the night to poop out usually just a little poop, sometimes larger ones...I think it's basically the inflammation and it being the nature of the inflammation to cause these issues...and not necessarily where the inflammation is because many crohn's patients that have only the small intestine involved have urgency issues as well, so it isn't based on proctitis alone.
