How do you filter water?

I have been using a Brita pitcher at work, but after the camplyobacter experience, I'm a little more concerned about bacteria now. I love the filtered water from the ice maker at home, but I don't have that option at work.

I am pretty sure the filters have to tell you what they do and do not remove. We have an under-sink, three stage filter at home and I love it. We are thinking of getting a whole house water filter because there is so much chlorine in the water where I live.

Thanks, I am looking online at sink water filters. As far as the pitcher, I'm more concerned about not taking time to clean it properly every day. I used to do frozen water bottles, but got concerned about the chemicals getting sucked out of the plastic.

Be careful what you transport the water in, reusable bottles can contain bacteria if not properly cleaned. I'd just buy bottled water and maybe disposable cups or use clean glasses at the office.

My office has great filtered water.

I drink bottled water at home - i also have a mavea filter which I like a lot more than my old Brita, it just feels better in your hand and more sturdy. At work we have a filtration system and I drink the water from that, there isn't really any other option besides soda.

I also use Brita but I am looking for newer options. Brita doesn't cut it. I tested Brita filtered water and it contains good amount of chlorine. Although that chlorine is within the 'limit', its still too much for my taste.

I initially considered RO system but I live in a rental and I am not allowed to make modifications. The portable RO systems are not that great.

I looked at distiller as well, but they cost about $200 and they last max. 2 years. With that cost of water, I can buy bottled water instead (hoping that it is not just repackaged water).

I looked at ozonator too but again too expensive and they will not help me get rid of chlorine from water. Boiling is not practical.

If you come across something, do drop a line here. I will do the same.

Isn't it so interesting that now we are looking for ways to purify the water, soon it will be air, as they already sell canned air in China, may be rest of the world will follow.

Reverse osmosis

There are lots of undercounter units for instance a Premier or a Watts. I use a 3 stage filter system (including fluoride) and then I use a distiller. I like my water really pure as you can see.

soystud, I have to tell you about my husband's grandma's well. She lives just outside the limits of a fairly small town, so the lots are about a half an acre in size, but she's still in a neighborhood in that there are a lot of houses. There's no sewer, either, so everyone has a septic tank. And all of the wells are fairly shallow.

It grosses me out to no extent, and nobody in the family seems to think it'd be a smart idea to get her water tested.

We have a deep well so my water is filtered by rocks and worms,lol. I can't stand the taste of bottled or filtered water, I don't think water should have a taste. But if I had city water I would filter it through as many things as I could find. My sister used to have city water and they used a brita on the faucet but they also had a filter on the whole house. It didn't taste that bad.
