Ideally you are going to be taking over 250 billion bacteria daily to replace the ones you kill. After you stop treating any fungal/bacterial issues 500 billion is a good number. Custom probiotics is the cheapest way to take that much. However, if you are bleeding, super inflamed etc.. Probiotics can actually be counter effective and cause more issues and inflammation. I'd focus on enzymes over probiotics at this stage.

What enzyme do you sugges PK? I am new here and trying to sort through what I should or shouldn't take. I'm on Oregano Oil (temporarily on hold because I discovered I need a probiotic and I am out of town right now)

When I return home I am heading over to the health food store for Primadophilus Reuter and an enzyme, since taking both seems to make sense to me. Am I correct in my thinking that I should take both?

PK, I just finished reading about the 4 rs and what you have said makes perfect sense to me. I will get everything, but only start on the probiotics after the blood is totally gone. Since starting the oregano oil, I have really seen an improvement, but now I need to take the 4 rs much more seriously. It's still shocking (to me) that I have this problem :(

@PK, Thanks for the reply. It all makes perfect sense what your saying and what I have read so far in your links. I am doing really well right now and I am being very careful what I eat especially no bread or sugar. I have been concentrating on my whole foods diet and drinking my smoothies and getting alot of exercise. I will definatly check out the enzymes you mentioned also.

I will say this about the WOO that if anyone takes it and it goes with what Protocol was saying about being careful not to take too much. I took 4 drops yesterday morning in my smoothie then was outside a couple hours later working on planting some things and moving some shrubs around in my yard. I was bending over alot and noticed that I got dizzy. I had to sit down for a while and take a break. It seems that the WOO is thinning my blood causing this to happen. I am back on 2 drops in am and 2 in afternoon.

B) Do not take Wild Oregano Oil if you are taking a number of prescription drugs as this can be hard on your liver. Ideally it is recommended that you are on no prescription drugs at all while taking this protocol, however if you do decide to do the protocal while still on prescription drugs you can get blood tests to measure your liver function during the protocol, this will ensure safety.


Well, that's sounding like a NO for me. I can't spike my liver test and lose Imuran trying this one :)

Having some sinus and throat issues and a friend recommended I get some WOO. I looked through these boards and the web and came across this article:

Looks promising, and interesting that the greatest benefits look to be a narrow range of concentrations, so like proto has said, you probably don't want to overdo it with this stuff. I will definitely order a bottle from Greece and try it out next time I start flaring, or will try some as a maintenance option. Interesting stuff.

I was reading that WOO shouldn't be taken with other meds (prescription) because it might damage the liver. I am on a ton of meds. Ack.

5-8 drops 2x day in water w/ primadophilus before or after it within an hour. Using the Zand brand atm (http://www.iherb.com/Zand-Oregano-Oil-1-fl-oz-30-ml/4912) which is 60% Carvacrol with 4 drops being a serving of 10mg of Oregano Leaf extract.

May not be getting enough. Not sure how to compare it to the Telia stuff. Can't get any info on drops to mg on their site.

Well - My GI (well his assistant anyway) called back today. They actually did take the time to review my current blood work since I am on Imuran as well as my file which surprised the heck outa me - more so that they even listened lol. The first time I asked if I could try to take this they said no way due to the "antibiotic effect" -- whatever they meant by that. But said they would review my file. Now I know what they meant.

So today they called and said they are fine with it if I want to try and sent me a weekly blood work thingy for the next 4 weeks just as if starting Imuran again. They said they will monitor and notify me if any issue pops up. So this is cool. The assistant said something about byproducts ROS dealt with in liver so this is what they were concerned with while also on Imuran. Didn't quite understand, hear what she said properly (thick accent). I am to call them back and let them know the dose or amount I want to take, and notify them anytime I change it. What they reviewed was in the past I had taken antibiotics as well on imuran and they wanted to look back and see if they effected my liver counts. I forgot I even did this , was quite some time ago. Soooo...

Perhaps I can try this, see if it has an effect on my liver counts, and at least provide others with some comfort. But again, I think it's always best to talk to your GI. I highly doubt there will be an issue though, unless it's a high dose someone takes.

I guess now it's just a matter of deciding what dose. I think I'll follow proto's dose along with the reuteri which I picked up today. Will give it some thought over the next day or two.

EDIT: @Proto - I keep meaning to ask, are you still taking the bee propolis? (forget how to spell that), never mind I see it in your sig now...

Detox is incredibly important when you take these meds. Then you mitigate the liver issues. Detox can be done in a number of ways. Saunas, detox baths, lots of water, NAC, Liposomal Glutathione, ubiquinol, increased bioavailable b vitamins.... Detox is something every single person in this forum needs to be doing regardless.
