In my experience after obtaining perfect stool consistency and frequency I can have up to four to six months of steadily decreasing bleeding. This happened at diagnosis and at the end of a big flare last year when I added my current medicine and became a little more hardcore Paleo/SCD-ish.
I even consider myself to be in remission once I'm going 2-3 times a day at standard times with perfect stools with amount of blood decreasing. My GI says the same thing, that it takes up to six months for the lining to heal itself enough to see absolutely no blood.
Hi Levi good to see another 29-year-old on here. I too had symptoms back in 07 after many surgeries and many doses of antibiotics. I was not diagnosed until October 2012. I had a sig scope in 2010 and apparently they didn't find anything at that time. They told me that it is just internal hemorrhoids bleeding and not to worry. Boy were they wrong!
It's encouraging to know that the body takes some time to heal. According to many scd folks The colon can actually heal in as little as three days? 6 mo sounds right. Serious work stress and a horrible boss added to the current flare. I could actually feel my stomach boiling during some of the conversations that I had with my boss after that it was alternative colitis all over again I actually feel my body getting upset.
Just a word of advice on the SCD diet. It is totally worth buying the book and following it exactly. Even though I am in a minor flare up now the SCD diet gave me solid results within one month and kept me about
90% in remission for six months or so. NO blood, almost no D ever, and 1-3 bm a day. It really gave me my life back. Was at 12 bm's that were all bloody d!
